You and I, walk different paths.

I could never do that. My aim is really bad. I was never able to write my name in the snow. Me and my pissy hands would have walked out after the first time. I can't think of a job worth pissy hands... and that spot on my jeans. I hope you didn't work in the food industry.
The topic of the thread boils down to safety, in some job titles pissing is THE MAN's 😎way of keeping us safe.
Everything is a tradeoff.

I've wiped it from my memory.
I don’t recall when the “random” drug testing was started,(~mid-late 80’s) but I remember why. One guy, he left roaches in other drivers tractors, was stoned often. One night he came to work directly from the party, drunk, and stoned. We called the dispatcher and told him to have security stop him and get him tested before he is on the road with 80K lbs. They were so afraid of a lawsuit because of no drug testing protocol he was not stopped. Fortunately he stopped not far down the road and slept it off…… He was the first “random” pick, good riddance.

Random tests, after an accident, and bi annual physicals all would involve a piss.

The ignorance is huge, when turning your head your not looking forward.
Really the only time to turn your head is if you are STOPPED and getting ready to merge into traffic.
I have resisted in responding but gotta call Bullshit here… the only time to turn your head is if your stopped? WTF? Say you are on the freeway with three lanes (two lanes to your left). I turn my head to make sure I understand all of my surroundings. I don’t rely on a mirror that captures only a portion of the road.

Now I guess I have to slug through the rest of this thread and bite my tongue.

No serious talk though, @Remorseless is a cool cat though!

Strangely enough a bunch of those dudes who frequent the JHWR "Social Media" thread are actually some pretty cool dudes. If you don't believe me, go check out their bunkhouse!
Oh god NO… we don’t need the gen pop in a serious and thoughtful thread.

When you turn your head while moving you are not looking forward, and unless your eyes are where you ear is you have to lean and turn to get an good view of left/rear traffic.
At 60 mph that second to turn and look you've gone 80 feet.

So you are telling me you only look straight ahead? Backing up? But I thought you said you looked at other drivers… how? Do I need to find that post?

The accident that “inspired “ random drug testing was January 04, 1987, in Chase, MD. A set of ConRail locomotives, running light, overran a signal, fouling, the mainline, when the Amtrak “Colonial “ collided with the Conrail locomotives, resulting in 16 Deaths.

Conrail Engineer Ricky Gates was found to have THC in his system, and that accident led to random drug testing in transportation related fields, starting in 1991.

Their were 4 of us that just got back from LA when he literally stumbled in talking about the party….. the next day before going south we had a conversation with the dispatcher. You let him go worrying about a lawsuit for singling him out for a drug test…. Had he killed a family, what would the lawsuit be ? Not to mention the headlines with the pics of our truck , with post accident drug & alcohol test results of the driver that did it …… the drug policy and testing started almost immediately with him the first “random” pick, as mentioned .

He may have “Inspired” random testing within your company, but the Ricky Gates case was the trigger for DOT instituting National Random Drug Testing, for transportation related Fields

We had virtually no prior official company policy other than no alcohol in the tractor. DUI, in the truck you’re fired. At that time you got put on probation for a private vehicle DUI after the license suspension was over.

The blimpy boy a hypocrite? No never...

I still recall the first post that I saw his opinionated arrogance in. A grandfather posted a dashcam video of having to swerve to the ditch to avoid a head on collision in a mountain pass, when someone tried to pass illegally from the other direction. The blow hard was so focused on the man who shared the video, who was speeding slightly that he blamed him entirely.
