I decided to run down to a river crossing we have a few miles from home. It's cool to go down and hang out for a few hours on the river bank after you cross. On the way back over, I got over a little to far to the right (i knew it was deeper and always avoid that). I wasn't in 4 and started to spin, I was stuck, couldn't go forward, couldn't back up, put it in 4 and still the same thing, so I had to throw it in low and engage the lockers, and water is coming in, LOL, once the lockers were engaged, it climbed right out in reverse and i went to the left to avoid the hole.
Had to pull the plugs, shop vac the carpet. Been letting her air out. Pic attached of the water coming in the tailgate

Congrats on getting out of there.

Nice to see Jeeps being used as intended and not be solely pavement dwellers.

Water up to my chest, my coffee cup floats by and my Warn Winch is underwater and it took 2 full pulls to save that Jeep from going doing down the river and I saved his life to boot...

He did not, not sure how or why, but when I got him to the bank, he was able to start it and drive home. He did say that the water was getting very deep and he shut down. I think he knew to do that and he called me on the cell fone and said come my ass.

This was around 6 pm, we crossed the river that morning around 9 am and barely a trickle, you have walked across and not got your feet wet.

On this topic, what's the best way to check the diffs for water after a deep crossing?
Gear oil is cheap and the differential gaskets are reusable. Best way is to drain the axles and refill them.

So lucky!
Also not good to turn off engine while in deep water.

Long ago in my Jk, I drove into a deep creek, and my jeep floated for 20 seconds, water coming up to the windshield. Somehow got my tires on the ground and drove out.
Didn't suck up any water, and no water in my diffs. I consider that extremely lucky and no longer do very deep water.

Had I not gone out to get him and his Jeep it would have cost him his Jeep at the best and cost his life at the worst.

He was the run leader, he set the run up and everyone was sitting there and no one was moving, so I said I am going to get him.

We were on our way back and he and I got back home that night. LOL it was 2 days later before the rest of the guys on the run got home. They BLASTED ME on the forum saying I had abanded them. I told them I did not, I would see to it that you got across, its doable, you just watched 2 Jeeps do it.

They blamed me for them not jumping the shark and getting home...like it was my fault. We talked cell fone and said come on, I will save you...
