Jeep Wrangler JL GOODBYE EcoDiesel; HELLO FUEL EFFICIENCY!!! IMG_20240124_151316336

At this point this photo is actually old. This was taken yesterday afternoon on my drive home from work.

Reason I say it's old at this point even though it was yesterday 3:13pm, is because at about 4:30pm yesterday I went for a 100 mi plus drive up to Oklahoma, and over to Denison Dam, just because I could.

This is my favorite place to chill.

There you go, updated. Took that just now.

I thought I was going to be going a little under the speed limit this MPG run, when in fact I'm actually doing about the speed limit everywhere I go. On the highways I'm going anywhere from 5 under to 5 over. And on the city roads I'm doing anywhere from 5 under, to three over. If you've never driven in Texas, speed limits here seem to just be a recommendation.

Regardless of what speeds I'm doing, I am playing to the strengths of the EcoDiesel. Mostly highway driving, no less than 20 mi every time I start it. Like yesterday I did about 130 mi round trip because I could. My drive to work is 20 mi, I drive home is the same. We're using the wife's Subaru for any local daily driving around the area, or for family stuff where we need more than two seats.

I've used about 9/16 of my fuel tank. I'm hoping to hit at least 500 mi. I think it's doable.

What kind of MPGs are you looking at right now?
I'm pretty sure he didn't recalibrate the Jeep with his new tire size, so his MPGs as reported by the Jeep will be quite a bit higher than reality. I'm making that assumption based on this comment:
Increase in odometer reading due to baloney skins
You recalibrated yours, right?

I had to go back and look at what you were referring to because I thought "no that's not right, when you change tire size your MPG reads low"...but that's with the assumption that no one buys a Jeep and then puts SMALLER tires on it. Turns out that's exactly what happened here lol. So yeah, I second this - he would see a MASSIVE increase in his MPG reading but only a small ACTUAL fuel mileage increase due to less rotating mass.

And now I have to remember to never say "no one buys a Jeep and puts smaller tires on it" again.

You're asking me or him?

It's not worth it for me to recalibrate at this point. When I go to 35s, a taser will be high on my list of to be purchased items. 0.3 in difference, I get more flex than that on a cold day.

EDIT: I just realized I'm posting this in the wrong thread. Guess I'll just leave this one here, next one is going back in the correct thread.

The fuel indicator is just a bad angle, I still have 3/8 of a tank left.

I don't know if it's just cuz it's Friday, maybe it's a full moon tonight, who knows, maybe I'm just impatient, I don't know, there's a lot of morons on the road today. One of the downsides of driving for a living is you run into a lot of idiots on the road.

Had to hit the skinny pedal couple times get around the morons. ?

Correct….I have not calibrated it, and won’t….as I’ll only have them on a few months per year.

I recently performed a MAJOR fuel efficiency increase in regards to my Willys XR.

Went from those dastardly 35” BFG’s to some P265/70R17 Mastercraft Glacier MSR snow tires (31.6” OD).

Benefits include:
  • Less rotating mass
  • Better tracking
  • Lower replacement costs
  • Looks so fucking kool
  • Net axle ratio change from 4.56 to 4.96
  • Increase in odometer reading due to baloney skins
  • Did I mention it looks so Kool?
Before (not kool)

After (way fucking Kool)
