We ordered our 2023 Wrangler Sport Altitude last week. I noticed the 3.6 L eTorque engine has a generator versus an alternator. Curious as why Jeep decided to do that on certain engines. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, the eTorque gets a 48V generator instead of an alternator. It’s part of the eTorque mild hybrid system designed to help turn those wheels from a standing start. It’s been like this since eTorque appeared five years ago.

etorque has a generator instead of an alternator. The generator can double as an electric motor to provide the mild hybrid features

It is a semantics issue.

A Belt Start Generator functions as an alternator when in charging mode, which provides the benefit of field regulation to improve systems maintenance and battery charging management.
