Question: Are Mopar pads the best or good enough to buy again? I hear nothing but great things about Mopar pads but my rear is completely worn out at 35k is that normal?

On Monday I started getting this horrible squeal coming from my brakes, I’ve since taken all four apart and regreased all the metal on metal contact points as well as cleaned all the slide pins and regreased those. I’m still getting the squeal and realized it’s metal from the clips rubbing my rotors because the back pads are so worn out the clips are actually making contact. Video of the sound and picture of one of my pads below.

Buying brake pads at a dealer or through Mopar would never even enter my mind. I’m not being sarcastic, have just never even thought of doing that when there are so many other viable options.

No I’d buy them through Oreilleys but that’s my question what other brand is recommended if not going with oem?

Why did the rears wear first, that'd be my first question...before which ones to buy.
Good question I’ve heard of the rears wearing faster before though so I’m not too worried about it. Anyone know if the JL rear pads come thinner from factory like some other vehicles or are they the same thickness all four corners?

If the brakes worked well and you were happy with them, then why change? I buy OEM pads for all my vehicles, unless there is some good reason not to.

I have no complaints I would prefer quicker stopping but I think that’s bigger brakes and something with more clamping force but I’m open to others feedback and love to hear from the community

My JLU had its annual State safety inspection four months ago (August), w/55K on the odometer. Per the provided multi-point vehicle inspection checklist, which I'm looking at right now, all four brakes had 12MM of measured pad material remaining. The Service Advisor actually mentioned how good the pads looked, given the mileage on the vehicle.

One's daily driving habits, and/or routes traveled, will affect the average service life of brake pads and other such consumables. Braking too early will accelerate pad wear, and braking too late, which compels heavier pedal pressure, should be avoided.

Possibly, the recurrent use (activation) of the Brake Lock Differential feature could cause focused wear on the rear pads, but that would have to be so constant as to be difficult to sustain.

As for replacement pads, I tend to use and recommend OEM quality parts.

I know on that rear pads generally wore out faster than fronts on the JK due to the traction control. Not sure if it’s the same on the JL

I went with the PowerStop Z36 brake pads and slotted rotors. They can lock up 39s. Disclaimer: The pricing went up @40% since I got theme in 2020. $$$$$

I posted it in my local Jeep group and they also mentioned the traction control being the culprit of early wear in the rear

I do want to do a big brake upgrade when I move up past my 35‘s but for now pads is the easier/cheaper option. I’ll keep those in my notes though thanks

^^^^This. Turning traction control off when you are off-road and experiencing a lot of intentional wheel spin.
Are you in sand dirt a lot when you wheel? The JL's BLD uses the rear brakes to work like a limited slip, when the locker is not engaged, to transfer power to the wheel with more traction. It will wear the brakes faster but improves performance. If so try using your locker in situations where there is a lot of wheel spin.

Its just pads and rotors. You dont change out brake calipers.
