So after 2 yrs and 16,000 miles I asked the dealer to look into the wandering I have had since purchase. I have read a bunch back a year ago about replacement and what needed to be done.
They have authorized a new gear box to be replaced.

My question is what should I be looking into before and after repair. I live in a retirement/beach town the dealership may have done this repair before but I can't see them being proficient in Wrangler type issues.

Any advice prior and post repair ?
Still stock Rubicon 3.6 4 door. I do happen to have the longer lower control arms I installed at 500 miles.
Thanks

~Make sure you have the black cast iron box and not the gray/silver aluminum unit, there's been cases of them still installing the old box :(
~Be sure you have the 4dr box, they have tighter turning ratio than the 2dr box. My dealer ordered the wrong unit for mine, but caught the error before they installed.
~Be sure all the box bolts are tightened to spec, they should be approx 100 ft lbs.
~The shaft nut/bolt is never to be reused, make sure it's new and tightened (IIRC it's about 45 ft lbs)
~Be sure fluid is at least to the minimum mark on the reservoir, you may need to check this after driving for a while as their could be some air that needs to work it's way out.
~They should do a new software update w/ the procedure, I believe it will be listed on your work order.

Enjoy your new box!

Check all of the bolts Like was already stated. Had mine replaced and checking behind the dealership mechanic I found the steering box input shaft coupling bolt loose enough to cause excessive play and later found the pitman arm nut loose. I could turn the pitman arm nut with my fingers.

If the power steering fluid level is found to drop later as air escapes from the system, you most likely will not find the exact fluid in any local parts stores. Will be worth the money to just order some and avoid the dealership nonsense.

Thanks for the input. I just wanted to get ahead of this before the install.

There is going to be PS fluid spilled everywhere around the repair area. They might not clean it up. You won’t know if there’s a leak or not until the spilled fluid is completely cleaned up.

That was the only thing they did right w/ mine, I'm a bit surprised there wasn't PS fluid anywhere since they didn't put the cap back on the reservoir but left it on the side of the motor :(. They didn't tighten the box bolts, reused the old shaft nut&bolt, but at least I got the 2 dr. black gearbox, eventually :)
