Did you measure it hanging or while resting on a fender?

It shouldn't matter. Measure the tether itself, which should be straightened during measurement. Don't measure anything else. This shouldn't be complicated.
Behold I have exposed and measured my tether. It is but 5 inches, which is not ideal for my fuel filling needs  but I make it work until I find a gas pump that is not compatible :surprised:
Although it is a very neat package when the cap is on. I think 1 inch more would have been enough....that's what she said....

I don't know why it even has a gas cap. All my 21st Century Ford vehicles have a sphincter.
I was going to say the same thing. Ford had two brilliant ideas: capless fuel filler, and keypad on the door. I loved both of those on my F-150.

I measured mine, just like Steve did--

From the TETHER base to the GAS CAP attachment- 6"

I suggest that we don't draw this worthless subject out ANY LONGER-

Using the same measuring points as Steve, my tether is just shy of 7" (6-7/8" via a ruler).

Steve, you could make a new hole in the plastic housing so you can bring the attachment point forward giving you more room to work with. It obviously wouldn't make the tether longer, but bringing closer to the door should let it hang out of the way of the fuel pump better.

There is no question that I can solve the issue easily, however, considering the vehicle is less than 8 months old......I am taking the approach of "help me, I can't do anything on these fancy high tech vehicles, warranty/product recall save me"
Regardless, this is a silly thing they should have caught and as you can see there are lots of people that are very self conscious with the length of their tethers :cwl:

Ooo they should have a retractable tether :like:
Not a fan of the sphincter option that some people have mentioned earlier on their fords, but then again I've never tried putting the pump into a sphincter, maybe it is better? :giggle:

LOL

My Charger, and my wife's Renegade both have "capless" fuel doors. I don't see any advantage.
