Hey everyone!

I have a '22 JLURD and recently changed the fuel filter. I purchased an OEM filter, removed the canister, replaced the old filter, lubed up the o-ring, and installed a new filter in the canister it back on. I couldn't find torque specs for the fuel filter canister however, I did place the canister in the same location the drain valve was positioned at before I took it off. I noticed that the canister is leaking diesel onto the skid plate, it hasn't dripped onto the ground, but is this normal?

When I replaced the fuel filter, it was already dark and did not have much light when removing the canister to see if it was leaking diesel. The check engine light hasn't come on and seems to be doing okay, I was just wondering if anyone else has a canister that has diesel trickling down from it.

Thanks in advance! :like:

Make sure the petcock valve is fully closed. You may have forgotten to tightened it after you did the initial drain.
Thanks for the reply!

Actually, the petcock is fully closed. There is a marking on the petcock valve and a marking on the canister itself. It seems that if they are both pointed at each other, the valve is fully closed. I can't turn the valve anymore. However, it seems to be leaking or "sweating diesel" for a lack of a better term up higher. It seems to be coming from around the threaded part of the canister.

You installed a new o-ring, correct? I’d recheck the o-ring placement on the threaded cap; confirm it’s seated in the lower ‘groove.’ Torque is 17, I believe.
Yup! The new OEM fuel filter came with the o-ring. I lubed it up and made sure it was in the same placement as the previous o-ring. I believe I went off the oil filter torque specs and torqued it to 18 ft lbs. With that number, it ended up putting the canister with the petcock valve facing to the rear of the Jeep as it was before.

I think I'm just going to monitor it but not make a big deal about it, I don't smell diesel fuel when parked in the garage or anything of that nature.

I went for a drive and verified that there are no leaks, everything seems to be fine. I can deal with the canister being "wet". However, as soon as I got home, my rear locker light is flashing. So off to the dealer tomorrow morning to see if it's a sensor. :headbang:

Going back and visiting this thread for other people that might have the same issue:

So I finally took my JLURD into the dealership to have them check it out. I had removed the fuel filter canister AGAIN, lubed up the o ring, and re-installed it. It was still leaking diesel afterwards. Fast forward to today, the dealership called me and said the fuel filter canister/housing has a hairline crack in it which was causing the issue of diesel fuel leaking.
