I would still try to see if jeep cares will help you at all. If not, I mean you where already just going to live with it sounds like so just keep doing that unless you wanna pay for new doors
I can’t just live with it šŸ˜… we’ve put a lot into this Jeep & love it… and I only have 32k miles on it. Now that I know my doors are just going to corrode and the paint is going to chip off and turn this into a giant eye sore, due to the manufactures choices it makes my gut hurt.

my husband told me he did try to get them if they could fix it back in 2020 and the dealer said no that they couldn’t, now that I’m hearing different and learning it’s a huge problem hits a different way. Hoping Jeep care will help me out on this but I’m nervous at what the cost will be if they dont.

The number they gave me for Jeep Corporate:

800-992-1997

I Don’t remember exactly what I did but once you called the number what I selected I think I just selected all other inquiries. Good luck though my corrosion was definitely not as bad as yours so hopefully they do approve it for you since you need it more.
You folks are the real MVPs! šŸ‘šŸ¼ craziest thing is, I only have 32k miles on it and it has been garage kept. We all deserve to have this corrected as it will unfortunately just continue to get worse if left untreated.

Wait you already took it to dealer for this in 2020?? Do you have proof of it? Maybe it’s been too long at this point but from my understanding once you initiate doesn’t matter if it falls out of warranty. If you have proof that you took it in for this I would tell jeep corporate about it when calling. Cause it sounds like dealer gave you faulty information for something that should have been fixed under warranty when you first brought it in.

This isn’t a cheap fix. Usually means new door and paint job to fix correctly. But you are right it will just keep eating at the door making it am eyesore

Not that it helps now, but I have the dealer document any concern/issue and get a printout. But im also paranoid about these things

Crazy you only have 32k miles I have 55k on mine but it is not garage kept and is my daily. Also once you get the doors fixed the fix for the hinges basically solves the problem just if you do get it approved make sure you check all hinges like the hood for example also the inner edge of all the doors because I had an issue there too before.

To be honest, it shouldn’t be an issue in the first place, but for some reason, someone in the engineering department thought it was a good idea to make the hinges steel and the doors aluminum to save weight and not Think what would happen when to dissimilar metals touch each other for long periods of time but once they repaint the hinges they put if I remember correctly, a zinc plate in between the hinge and the door that helps prevents the metals from reacting to each other

We initially had it there for the touch screen, the navigation needed an update… the dealership messed up the update and completely fried my screen and all those components. Right before Covid so they couldn’t get the part for over 4 months. It was infuriating, couldn’t access any features (including music) for that entire time. My husband said he asked about the bubbling in person during one of those visits, as we were there numerous times and the dealer told him no paint isn’t covered. He said he is extremely doubtful they noted it anywhere but maybe I could ask the dealer if they could print me a complete history.

So, if this hasn't appeared yet on someone's JL, does anyone know if these zinc plates are available to install to prevent this from happening in the first place? It would seem as though a simple solution (like a thin shim) should be at least available in the parts department for minimal cost, if not a full TSB recall. Should be a simple install if the plates are available.

Anyone know?

I have not see the zinc plates be available to buy I only know that it is part of the service bulletin that the dealer has on how to fix the issue. Technically you could maybe custom make them but they are put on between the door and the hinges and then painted over. So I think it is more a dealer fix then something you can actually buy to do yourself

Except a .010" to .020" zinc shim could be installed between the door and the OE hinges without being seen and would definitely not be difficult to do. It wouldn't need to be repainted. I've replaced hinges on a JK before, and while everything is painted together, it's not enough paint to prevent the hinges from coming off and going back on very easily.
