As we all know the 2024 Rubicon came standard with forward collision warning (I absolutely loathe pretty much all the forced ridiculous tech, including that ridiculous iPad screen) I optioned my two door Rubicon, pretty much as simple as possible purposely, a 2 door manual transmission with just a hardtop from the factory. However there was no way I couldn’t get my rubicon without these tech options standard. I was wondering if it is at all possible to somehow delete the fcw system altogether and get rid of that giant box that obstructs the windshield like an eyesore. Any input would be awesome!

Yes! All of this nanny tech is horrible! Give me technology that I ask for - the government should not be in the car business. Let manufactures compete to build the best/safest cars and consumers will vote with their wallet. I will avoid owning any of these as long as I can. Perhaps I will never again buy a brand new car as they all have this stuff now.

Watching this one, as I am curious as well. In about 5 years I plan on starting to remove all the unnecessary nannies.

Just a heads-up that I was in the middle of a five-car pileup that most likely would not have happened if the girl that slammed into us (stopped to avoid a collision in front of us) at 60 had one of those nanny features. There would have been some severe lawsuits if she (or her dad) had intentionally done something like you're describing. Lawsuits x4, of course.

I'm not saying not to do it. Just be aware of the potential consequences.

Is it possible to just turn it off?

First off thanks for your replies! I’m new to the forum and I was kinda expecting negative feedback for this lol. So my other car is a 02 s2000 which is about as bare bones as can be. With that said, I got a Jeep with the intention of using it as original designed, a utilitarian off-road 4x4 & I’ve been using it as such I’ve taken it off-road more times than I can recall including when it still had temp tags!) with that said I absolutely love this thing except the aforementioned issues with the forced nonsense tech. I hope to keep this long term but with this stuff that’s destined to be an issue down the road, it will probably affect my long term ownership.

In 4 years of ownership, I've seen the collision avoidance happen once and it saved me from some dummy that decided to brake halfway through a turn where I was looking see if I was also clear. It's not intrusive at all.

In saying that, crack open your owner manual or better yet sit in the driver seat and look through Uconnect options. You might be surprised. As far as actually removing the radar, I'm quite sure @Tredscan help, he ADORES his Sawzall.

The moment it arrived from the factory and I took it on my initial test drive I immediately turned it off. My gripe is long term ownership issues & being forced to have it in the first place.

They are currently not a government mandated item. The lawsuit will be the same if the FCW was removed, turned off, or left in tact. There are not these super CSI style investigations into vehicle accidents, especially when it's a rear end collision and obvious to who is at fault

I absolutely agree with this comment, for example I have the fcw completely shut off, would I be held in some sort of higher liability if I was at fault rear ending someone because I had the sensor off? There are inherent risks to everything in life including driving & car crashes are an unfortunate part of it. I personally feel people should put more effort into actually DRIVING their vehicle themselves not relying on technology that mostly just takes their attention off the road. Sorry for my rant haha.

Around here if you hit someone in the trunk you get a ticket, following some one to close. So we keep our distance and adapt our driving with the conditions. Because they don't care if there was a patch of ice, ask me how I know.

Not one situation is exactly the same, for instance what you just mentioned with the ice. The only thing that you could do is be cognizant of the road/weather conditions & other drivers, sometimes things are just out of your control.

One more point I’d like to mention about my issues with the tech is just how much of an after thought in design some of these things are. I have a 2023 4 door wrangler that I gave to my girlfriend after I got my rubi, the 4 door is pre facelift and minus the tech I’m ranting over, and it’s also a stick shift. The 2024 with the big iPad just slapped in the dash pushed it out further & affected shifting from 2nd to third gear causing me to basically punch the hazard button. It took some real getting used to & adjusting the way I have to shift gears from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th to avoid punching in he dash which was a non issue with my 2023.
