Fixing dent around fuel door?

Just picked up my 24’ wrangler and went to install a fuel door and lo and behold me being dumb I dented around the fuel door. It’s not the best picture but was hoping some of you on here could tell me if this is an easy fix or if I’m going to have to live with it never being right again

Yeah, these things happen. Ask around (maybe on your local forum) to see who is good for PDR in your area and let them take care of it.

Next time, and a tip to anyone else doing the swap, take your tail light out first to access the back of to the original fuel filler pocket. You can depress the tabs from the inside.

I drove home about 20 minutes with the gas cap flapping in the breeze. Put some dents all around the fill up area. Had a PDR guy fix it, looks good as new.

I did the same thing, left a knuckle size dent I have to have taken out. Sheet metal is surprisingly thin around the opening

I think I paid $150 for a mobile PDR guy. I probably had 4-5 discreet dents that had to be removed. None were terribly deep but you could see them.

I had to take my JL to a PDR not because of trying to swap out for a fuel filler door but because my neighbor decided to go out for a pass and fumbled the football. I was surprised at the sound the football made as it hit square on the fuel filler surround. I had just asked them to move down from the Jeep, I wasn’t happy. He did pay the PDR bill, credit for that.

I don’t think a typical dent guy can get that removed. You need to take it to a bodyshop and they are going to have to reinforce it from behind. I had a dealership install a fuel door at the time of delivery to my previous JL three years ago. Some idiot tech ripped the willys fuel door out instead of releasing each individual tab. It took two dent guys and 3 different body shops until a body shop was able to fix it. They would pop it out and anytime I filled up, the dent would go back. That area is incredibly thin. The body shop that fixed it reinforced it from behind. The owner told me it took him all day to do it.

Every situation is different but I would take it to an experienced body shop.

Curious how this happens, as you are supposed to take the driver side tail light out first and disconnect the fuel hose from the plastic surround from the inside. When you do the plastic surround comes right out. How is the metal being dented?
