Do you use your HVAC in auto mode? It could be engaging the compressor for AC or defrost without you knowing.
This was my first thought. In auto mode, it'll kick on the A/C without actually illuminating the A/C button's light and actually, I'm pretty sure there's conditions where it'll do that in manual HVAC mode as well (seems to happen on really humid days, regardless if a defrost pattern is chosen or not).

Usually, if your selected temperature is set to anything that's at or below the outside temperature, it'll start to occur (ie, outside temp is 77 and HVAC temp is set to 70).

Drive's me crazy that it doesn't at least light up the A/C button and that the stupid thing is kicking in when you're driving with all the windows down and just want some additional fresh, uncooled forward-facing air.

Nevermind, just saw the post about 240F coolant temps. That seems really high.

Well you're engine is getting hot and the fans are on to cool it down. Check your coolant level is the first move.

As others have said, check your coolant tanks. If you overheated there's a solid chance it's because you lost some coolant through a leak. The coolant neck on the driver's side of the engine is of particular concern as Jeep was struggling to figure out how to apply Loctite to the bolts for your year of 2.0.

I had a similar issue where when stopped at a light the fan would go crazy and the temp would overheat. As soon as it got air while driving it went away. Luckily I was close to home, parked it and then had it towed to the dealer. Only 9100 miles at the time and luckily under warranty. The dealer stated it was the water pump and they replaced it. I was not a fan of the 2.0 Turbo, but when I got it back in 2022, options were limited on getting a Wrangler. I like how it drives and the pep when you gas it, but I'm thinking long-term this engine will not last and gonna be stuck buying a new engine. I'm actually shopping a 4 door 3.6 to replace it.

I see now that the coolant is low in both places. Can I simply pour in additional coolant? The manual says to bring it to a dealership.

Unless you're getting warning lights or messages I would not worry too much about it. I have a 21 JLU and I never really noticed the loud jet engine until we went off roading in CO. Now I notice it any time I am driving really slow. It comes and goes. Nature of the beast.

The fan on my wife’s 3.6 motor was running on high occasionally a while back. I discovered that the thermostat was bad and wasn’t opening all the way. The fan would run really high but the coolant temps weren’t astronomical. It might be the same with the 2.0. Good luck.
