I have a 2021 JLU with 2.0 turbo. Recently, the fan kicks on as if I am off-road on a steep climb. The weather hasn't been hot at all. When I look at the temperature gauges, all are below the middle line. What could be causing this? I saw a recent post about a blown head gasket and am now really concerned. Any thoughts?

I don’t think so. It’s new. It started on a trip to see the eclipse last month. We were on our way home doing about 70mph when we hit a dead stop in traffic. The jeep was overheating. After a few minutes it calmed down, but now it seems to come on much more often than it used to. My daughter took it for a drive today and asked if I knew about the jeep sounding like a rocket ship.

Just because I'm curious are you running the AC more than you were a few months ago?

The 2.0's turbo is water-cooled. There's a heat exchanger up front with the radiator for the cooling system. It could be your turbo is getting hot. Makes sense if you were pushing the Jeep at freeway speeds and came to a dead stop that there would be a lot of heat built up. The fans cool the exchanger.

Our 2.0's have two cooling circuits, and two coolant reservoirs. Make sure they're both full and the coolant is in good health.

Do you use your HVAC in auto mode? It could be engaging the compressor for AC or defrost without you knowing.

What do mean it was overheating? How hot?

No leaks. I haven’t been off road since March.
