I want to upgrade my stock JLUR shocks. Should I go with Falcon or Fox? I’m more familiar with Fox, hear great things, and like that Mopar chose them so I’m leaning that way. What do you recommend? Thanks!

Both great choices really I’m running Fox shocks with falcon stabilizer shock love them both the shocks ride nice and firm. Go with what works for you.

Depending on the size of Foxes you get (2.0 vs 2.5) you are going to get different results. The 2.0s have a decent sized flutter stack inside them making small bumps in the road unnoticeable and they do well with hard hits. The 2.5s will ride a little stiffer because of the amount of oil they have to move, but i find they make bigger bumps feel even more plush and controlled.

The Falcons have been coming out of the box stiffer than Foxes, but if you dod the 3.3 series with adjusters, most of feedback i have received, is that the ride can be tuned easily to that persons preferences without issue.

Both at this point are extremely high quality, and I have had no issues .

Serviceability:

Fox 2.0 w/out the reservoir are pretty much reserved to be serviced at fox because of the expensive tools it takes to rebuild them. Fox 2.0 with reservoirs and 2.5 shocks are very easily serviced by local shops (including us) and their maintenance is much less than new shocks.

Falcon at this time must be serviced by Teraflex, so we dont know if they will allow anyone to open them yet.

TL;DR
Fox for a little plusher ride, Falcon for a little more control, but adjusters make everything more copacetic!

I wanted the most travel and adjustability because I enjoy plush.

I can't speak to Fox but the Falcon 3.3 has both travel length and adjustability. I run it on it's softest setting with stock springs and a spacer lift so it's close to stock but able to run their longer shock with bump stops. I'm happy and really happy getting it twisted up and still having a good chance of having a tire on the ground for traction / stability.

I find even on it's softest setting it takes a good hit to bottom out and they really shine off road in washboard / choppy surfaces at speed - something we have quite a bit of here in the desert south west.

The shocks from Falcon have digressive valving and the shocks from Fox do not. Falcons can feel stiff or harsh at low shaft speeds because of this, but the digressive valving also gives them much better body control. It depends on what you want.

Shocks from any suspension manufacturer, regardless of what brand shock it is, are typically tuned to their suspension. So you can't compare a Fox shock from Dynatrac to a Fox shock straight from Fox. They may feel and ride completely different. Similarities would just be in the reliability of the platform and what is involved in rebuilding them.

And I would have to disagree about larger diameter shocks being stiffer. They can be if they are not valved for the platform, but that can be said for anything. For example, the Mopar lift kit comes with 2.5" Fox shocks, but they have literally the exact same valving curve as stock. If you think your Mopar kit rides like stock, it should. It has the same shocks functionally.

Lastly, in my opinion, all the shock manufacturers leave a lot on the table because they are required to make their shocks work "good enough" with as many combinations of parts as possible. This includes different spring rates, wheel travel, up vs down travel ratios, vastly different sprung and unsprung weights, etc. Getting suspension with shocks that are the correct lengths and tuned for the suspension will vastly improve the ride quality and performance of the vehicle.

I have a set of fox 2.0RR shocks from accutune and they're actually longer up front than the falcons. Rear the falcons are still longer.

@dustanner going through what you went through...I recently bought a JLUR and about to lift to 2.5 and it's now between Falcon 2.1 SP2 with Teraflex and Fox 2.0 with Superlift but still somehow really confused to which one would be the best for my drive which are predominantly road and the occasional weekend off-roading.

And thanks all for your feedbacks, it really helps

I have Teraflex springs with box stock Fox 2.0. Rides fine.

Not all Fox shocks are created equal... some are made with bottom of the barrel components and some with race quality. 2.5 and 3.0's only in that category. Falcon are same quality throughout. most people don't use the correct springs on their kits are pair them with Falcon shocks and then they seem stiff. when you run a stiff spring it reacts harsh, hard and fast... shocks then will use their high speed valving which is stronger and typically feels harsher hence the stiff feeling. Another option is ADS out of Tucson Arizona.. 100% made in the USA minus a few screws they buy in a huge bulk because making those themselves is extremely costly and time consuming. their 2.5 piggy back shocks are amazing and I have sold 40 sets in last year alone.

Also, will I need to re-gear my Rubicon 2021 if I move up to 35s Tyres? It’s an 8 auto transmission.
