Has anyone mounted a continuous loop type camera on the rear (tailgate) door? Like a dash cam, but facing behind the Wrangler.
Was thinking it would need to be hard-wired, but maybe USB would be possible-though-awkward.
I also have a soft top, so mine would likely need to be external -- maybe mounted on the backup cam housing.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of or want this, so I'd be interested to see other solutions, before I start trying my own.

Not externally, but I picked up a Garmin Mini 2 dash cam that can be plugged in with the accessory socket near the tail gate or hard wired back to the front. It can be physically disconnected if needed (unplugged). I plan on using a 3M hook & loop set up so I can take it off the rear window of my hardtop and secured to the roll bar when running topless.

Thanks! I was just getting standard dash cams in my searches.
I'd prefer if it didn't have such a wide field of view (everything's extremely far away in the mirror) and if lights at night were significantly clearer. There are quite a few alternatives (search these forums for comments about various brands), but that's the only one that I found that came with Jeep-specific mounting hardware.

I use the vantrue n4 with rear camera and it's great. You can't see it from the outside but it can see you! Great quality and field of view. I ran the wire from the top tucked in the trim around the sport bar, but plenty of wire to run down through floor .

Dash cams in general can be deceiving -- you want to show someone the video of a ... driver jumping right in front of you, and it looks like you had 2 miles and 4 minutes to react!

True, but capturing the color of the light is super helpful in those situations, especially cause so few people bother to stop and be witnesses -and the ones that stay often saw what happened right after they looked up from their phones and not what took place seconds before
