Don't worry about it - you'll get a call within the next few days by someone wanting to talk to you about "your car's extended warranty"

I’d say wait until youā€˜re near the end of the factory warranty to purchase an extended one. Who knows if you’ll even still have the Jeep by then. No point in throwing away money before you need to.

See what your experience is with the factory warranty before you pay to extend it

Call Tom Winkels at Hayes CDJR and get a quote for MaxCare. There hasn't yet been a good reason not to just go with MaxCare, the price is too good. You can generally get B2B coverage for 100k miles for under $1500. That's a no-brainer.

DO NOT wait until your warranty is almost up - MaxCare does not work that way. It is cheapest before the 1yr/12k mile mark, and you don't pay anything for coverage while your factory warranty is in effect. You are only paying for the extension you order.

I bought mine (maxcare) from Tom for my 19 JL and 21 Grand Cherokee after a few years for 8 years/100k miles, $100 deductible for under $1900 each. I wouldn’t say it’s much more expensive if you wait.

You can always set aside $2k (you really should have more in savings than that) and when the time comes, get it.

Hayes is now called LaFontaine Jeep of Kalamazoo. Not 100% sure if Tom is still there. But if he is, definitely the guy to talk to.

Had an extended warranty on 2 cars so far. I think I made 1 claim on each of them.

The longer your wait the more expensive it is. You also get your pro-rated money back if you sell it.

@makomike, this is about as inexpensive as the Mopar warranty gets: https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/jeep-warranty-dealer-cost-now-through-march-31st/

A few different factors there - $0 deductible? 120k miles. This also brings up a good point on how many miles you plan on driving each year, that’s important when choosing a warranty. It differs from everyone. OP will need to decide for himself. I’d look at the history of length of ownership for previous vehicles, and all of what was stated above.

Obviously I’m not against them, I just don’t see a point in buying it when your factory warranty still has 4-5 years.

Mine is $100 deductible.

The point is you save a ton of money for the same product. Not all warranties work this way, of course - GM changed the way they do things back in 2019 - their factory-backed extended warranty is now designed to be purchased at the end of the factory warranty...but they used to do it the same way as MaxCare, where it was cheaper to purchase up front.

It's pretty easy to see how the cost goes up. This was MaxCare, no deductible, CO.
Wow the cost has nearly doubled since I got mine. 😳

Not sure if this is what you meant but the clock on the extended warranty starts the moment you purchase it. If you were to sell the Jeep while it was still under the factory warranty, you get a prorated refund, not the entire purchase price.
