Additional / unnecessary operating/maintenance costs for owners/operators, notably earlier failure of starter motors due to unnecessarily frequent engine restarts, requiring very expensive replacement costs;

Well, never buy a hybrid since the ESS stop/start numbers a low compared to how many times the ICE stops/starts in a hybrid. Plenty of hybrids around with high miles and no issues but I guess it depends on how the manufacturer built the system. My ESS is disabled since it makes no difference and the spouse's vehicle is a hybrid.

I truly don't understand all this whining about ESS. I installed a SMART StartStop the first week we had our new Wrangler back in 2019, and haven't thought about ESS since. Back then the modules were like $79. They're a bit more expensive now, but still, come on people, if you don't like ESS, just freakin disable it. And stop whining about it.

Best,
-Tim
While that addresses the annoyance of ESS events, it doesn't do anything to stop you from being stranded when your AUX battery gives up the ghost and takes the main battery with it

Yes, these criminals in the government destroyed my life. I developed anger issues because of the stop/start thingy. My girlfriend left me, and then I got fired from my job. I have been in emotional agony and I'm on antidepressants now. They have to pay for my pain and suffering.
I feel like we are owed something for having to endure the results of your emotional distress. Like collateral damage. 🤣

Sh*t happens, it's called LIFE! Grow a pair and deal with it. I was lucky enough to be born and raised by men who fought in WWII and Korea. They taught us to deal with LIFE without constantly whining and complaining and looking for someone to blame when things don't always go the way you want.

If I'm stranded because my AUX battery gives up the ghost, I'll call AAA, or a friend, or the local JEEP dealer. It's a problem, you figure out a solution, you solve it. You don't go looking for someone to blame and whine about it.

And Happy Father's Day to my Dad (A Marine Vet who served in Korea at Chosin) and all the vets who raised us to be resourceful problems solvers in our own lives.

Best,
-Tim

No need to go all hardo, bro. Just pointing out that Smart Start/Stop (I have one in my Jeep) doesn't fix the terrible design of ESS. And there are people who have had their Jeep shut down on the highway with little warning, within the first year of ownership. If your "solution" is to call someone to come get you when you're dead on the side of the road because of a shittily designed ESS and you're ok with putting up with that kind of reliability, then Jeep has some great EVs coming they'd like to sell you.

And Happy Father's Day to my Dad who was in Poland for WWII, served in the Polish military and packed up his wife and newborn child to came to the US to escape communism. He taught me not to put up with people or corporations that charge you good money for poorly designed products.

Best

If it's so horrible... Why not just press the button to turn it off?

It's almost as if... Jeep gave us the choice!

For the crybabies the button should be called "give me a cookie".

Does pushing the button solve the problem of the aux battery killing the main battery? No, it does not. But for a relatively low price we have the ability to eliminate start-stop and remove the aux battery so it never fails. Problem solved. I hope to get to mine before it becomes a problem.

The biggest gripe is seems is the built-in unreliability of the ESS system, and which is one of the most common problems of the JL, the button is a non issue, most of us have been well conditioned over the years to be compliant to obediently press a button for a cookie.

My neighbour had that aux battery failed on his new 2019, it was only a few months old, the dealership couldn't figure out what was going on, how to start it etc, a couple of weeks ago by they eventually changed both batteries, during that time he traded it in for another vehicle. His misery led me to research and learn there is a little battery buried in the bowels of the engine, why bury they battery there to begin with, 3 years with the 2018 with ESS I never had any battery issues.

Driving back from the US in the pouring rain on Saturday I saw a JL at the side of the highway being hauled on to flatbed, had me wondering what massive expense I would be into if mine failed on the wrong side of the border.
