When I bought my wrangler, dealer had 14 wranglers on the lot. 12 were the 3.6. I had 2 pentastar engines in 2 different vehicles over about 9 years. Much happier with the 2.0.

As I got older, I realized that my hunting and shooting wasn't all about shooting a limit or self-defense.

Here's some of my less is more. A little side by side I used for hunting quail, chukar and even pheasant. Two triggers, because of less mechanical complexity to fail. Two barrels instead of 3 or 5 shots from a jamomatic "bumper jack" auto. Walnut stock, because god grew walnut trees for gunstocks. .410 because once you pass the fried chicken joint on the way out of town in your $50k rig, with your thousands $$ of equipment packed into it, untold $$ of guns, etc, you've lost any rationale to argue the practicality of hunting, and any joe-bag-o-donuts can kill a bird with a 12ga loaded with a handful of shot.

This old Kart 22 conversion from the 70s on my 70Series Gold Cup frame in this picture was a search that took decades to find the right one. Lots of fun with just a little pop.

I'd argue that the vast majority of 2.0L owners bought their Jeep off the lot without really considering what engine was in it. Stellantis/FCA has been pushing this engine for awhile now. It's even cheaper on the order sheet despite the engine itself costing significantly more. The 2.0L is definitely the "default" engine these days.

3.6L owners more than likely went out of their way to make sure they got the 3.6L. I personally did.
As a direct injection 2.0 owner of another brand, I absolutely chose the 3.6 for it's legacy design. I've not been disappointed.

We have two vehicles with the 3.6l. A 2019 Grand Cherokee and a 2023 High Tide. So far they have been outstanding engines with excellent power.

Growing up in the 70’s as a gearhead and working as a Chevrolet dealer mechanic throughout the 80’s where big cubic inch V8’s barely had 200hp, the Pentastar is like having an Indy car engine.

Beautiful- another off topic gun story. I was late to the dove hunt so I just brought my Thompson Center single shot 44 mag pistol loaded with 410 equivalent shot capsules. One flew over and a new guy missed it. I pulled out the pistol and got lucky. He was still going on and on about it at beer time when we started laughing and I showed him a shot load. Instead of laughing with us he started saying I lied and cheated when a buddy said “hey, you missed it with a 12 ga”

Although I have never driven a diesel JL, I drove this 2.8L diesel JK some time ago.
It was very noisy and vibrated a lot. It was like a tractor.

It Isn’t Noisy, doesn’t Vibrate or Drive like a Tractor.

In My Opinion, for My Uses, the 3.0 EcoDiesel is The Best engine that Jeep has ever offered in the Wrangler.

That’s not to say that it hasn’t had problems, unfortunately it’s back at the dealer right now, and will be sorely missed this week on a 5 hour each way trip to Wenatchee, WA from Mt Hood, OR, with multiple mountain passes in between, and snow expected while we are there.

Unfortunately, some of us have had problems with the EcoDiesel, but when it is running properly, it is an amazing combination of Power, Torque and Fuel Economy, that no other combination matches

I have owned 4 Jeeps over the last 15 years; a 2009 Liberty 2.8L diesel, a 2018 Grand Cherokee 3.0L diesel, a 2015 Rubicon 3.6L and now a 2022 Rubicon 3.0L diesel. The diesels are quiet, low maintenance, provide much linger range, are not smelly and far superior from a power standpoint. I do live in the west so the turbo greatly increase the power. I have had NO issues with any of the vehicles. the 2015 Rubicon was grossly under powered at altitude. The engine screamed and struggled at 65-70mph.

As did I. I ordered my 3.6l without ever even driving it. Dealers weren't stocking 3.6's at the time so there were none to test drive. It was a requirement for my next Wrangler due to my experiences with the 2.0.

Even now knowing that the 3.6 isn't remotely "bulletproof", I wouldn't swap it for the 2.0. If I can only get the 2.0 in my next Wrangler, then there won't be a next Wrangler for me.
