Need help figuring this out? My JLUR just started hicupping on a trip to Florida. It’s not a misfire. No real loss of power or momentum. Under hard acceleration it is perfect but on cruise control, 70 mph, I feel a quick hiccup every now and then. Tach looks good; doesn’t jump. No codes. 3.6l auto.

It never hurts to check all of the wiring harness connections underneath the hood. Also do the Jeep JL fuse and relay check to be sure they're fully seated.

Without codes it's mostly just the SWAG method.

Do you notice this if you are driving into the wind?

Wind wasn’t an issue that I recall. Just driving. Stop and go and interstate. When I’m at a constant speed. Hard accelerating is great no problems. Don’t honk wind of environment are either.

Not sure if this is your issue, but I used to work at a bmw dealership and lots of them would "phantom misfire" do exactly what youre describing and not throw codes. A lot of the times it was spark plugs or ignition coils starting to go bad.. not sure if yours is manual or auto but a way you can check it is manually shift into the highest gear and accelerate as hard as you can at a low speed intentionally lugging the engine.. like 50mph in 8th if its an auto. if that causes the what you are describing and a normal hard acceleration in the proper gear does not then its definitely a phantom misfire and id start with spark plugs

Interesting. I came here to post. I started having this issue today. While driving in auto between 7th and 8th gear it feels like a surge about every 10 seconds or so. The rpm’s will jump ever so slightly. When I’m Manual mode it does not happen. I turned the AC off and it stopped. Turn AC back on creates the problem again.

Did anyone face the hiccups when the engine is cold and at a low speed?
It is not happening literally every time when it is cold but comes sometimes.
Any Idea what it could be? Really makes me crazy...

FYI: Took my Rubicon to the dealership about the engine surging problem when the AC is on. There was a TSB 18-049-22 that pertains to a misfire condition that is not setting a DTC - PCM software update is available. They updated software. Issue seems resolved for now. Had a 70 degree day here in Georgia and ran the AC on blast. Hopefully this helps some.

Did you get a resolution? Mine happened yesterday on my ‘18 JLU. I noticed it during 7 & 8 gear. Not on cruise control and not running air conditioner.

What you're describing is a misfire. If it's not bad there won't be a code thrown. You can look at the misfire monitor to determine which cylinder is causing it, or wait until the problem becomes more pronounced and it throws a code.

I've also seen failing crank senses cause exactly the same condition

my issues turned about to be ejectors I believe. Tried Lucas cleaner and it got better. Then Seafoam and it decreased to almost nothing. Just occasionally under strain.

I decided to sell the Rubi due to this and other annoying issues.

That sucks. My v6 only ever hiccups once in my 40-mile round-trip commute, and it's always in the exact same spot. Coming from a stoplight turning right onto a steep incline (maybe 30° or better) it almost always seems to hesitate for half a second halfway up that hill, but no where else that I've ever noticed.

Still have low miles and only use mid-grade Top Tier gas, so really doubt it's a misfire or clogged injectors already. It's very weird, whatever it is. Might try some cleaner in my next tank just for the heck of it.

I was having a hiccup when driving between 45/60 after acceleration. I did all of the suggestions on here and nothing worked . I filled up my tank and a full bottle seafoam ... Boom no more problems after 2 weeks. Good luck to everyone . I hope u get a easy fix like I did.
