Thanks for any help. 2017 wrangler sport.. Not sure if it's been regeared or not, no stamp. I've got 35in, lifted, heavy rims. At highway speeds im running 2.5 2.6 RPMs but my coolant is heating up to 250°. It was okay in the winter but now it's getting summertime and it pops up really quick. If I go up a hill or against headwind forget about it. I've got plenty of pedal power. I have a new radiator, new thermometer in at 203 degrees, and actually put a second one in just as case the first thermostat was wrong. New coolant tested to minus 40. The radiator was from O'Reilly's in an oem I was thinking maybe go to a slightly larger one. Thanks again for any help.

You might have better luck on a JK specific forum

Did you vacuum bleed the cooling system, after you changed the Thermostat? It sounds like you have air in the cooling system. Is your coolant MOPAR OAT 50/50 MIX? Have you checked your coolant levels? Do you anything like bar with lights, winch, or grill inserts restricting your CFM air flow to your radiator? Is your Thermostat MOPAR OEM?

The JK’s are really bad about getting air locked. You need to vacuum fill it or bleed from the thermostat housing several times to get things flowing right.

Also the aftermarket thermostat you put in is garbage and should be thrown out.

Thanks for the input.
Nothing blocking the intake, the winch is low enough (or should be).
I will try again to relieve any air. The radiator pulled about an inch of coolant from the reservoir yesterday. If the vacuum was not working, would that have happened?
No leakage anywhere and I'm not smelling any burning through the heads.
I put OAT and mixed it with distilled water.
The thermostat I bought was the higher end at Orileys but I'll check the dealer and see how bad I get screwed on price.
I 'm also ordering a Jscan to see if the 35's have been input into the computer for calibration. At 2.6 RPM at 65 my calculations show a gear of somewhere around 5.1 or so. I may have to break it open to see the gears and maybe lower to 4.58.

OEM thermostats are Mahle. They’re cheap. Mopar packaged versions list for $68. All of the MOTORAD built and repackaged options will eventually stick shut on you.

Once you get your root cause fixed so that your temps are not spiking that high, I'd suggest looking at the JK version of the RPM Extreme fan controller. It is a game changer for keeping the engine running cooler.

Contact Jon at RPM Extreme. He may have the solution. The fix for the JLs is the RPM EXTREME FAN JL CONTROLLER. Its been a game changer for the Wanglers JLs and Gladiators.

Bought a Mopar thermostat and I believe it really comes down to gearing. quick calculation so I'm running 5.1 or so on Gears and it looks like it should be a 4.58 for highway speeds with 35 inch tires. I'm going to look at it and see if it was recalibrated when the previous owner re-geared and put the tires on. I've reached out to J scan see what equipment they have I could plug in and find out.
