Electronics freakout while driving

After reading various other “Service Shifter” threads, I took a look at the wiring harness behind the glove box.
When I touched or jiggled the white harness on the right, I was able to replicate the issue. I had the Jeep running and when I pushed on this harness everything went haywire.

there is also a little white plug on the far right, which when I touched this the Jeep went above and beyond nuts and would not shut off. I jiggled it again and the alarms stopped and I was able to shut the Jeep off. Not sure of what consequence any of this is…

This is wild. I’m going through a lot of this right now. 2020 JLU Willys, 39k miles (of course outside warranty), Jeep is dying and turning itself off while driving; all electronics go dark then back on. Sometimes I can keep driving through it, sometimes the motor shuts off too. Dealership has had it two days, tried replacing the RF-HUB and reprogramming my keys... ? got it back today and it happened again multiple times. It’s pretty crazy and I don’t know what to do either.

I replaced both batteries brand new two weeks ago, checked all fuses, still happens. I’m getting freaked out. This is my third Jeep and I’ve thankfully never had electrical issues before. This is uncharted territory for me.

your situation sounds a bit different from mine. Sounds like maybe an alternator issue?

I still don’t have mine fixed. They now claim it’s the steering control module. I’ve been dealing with this since March 25. The part was allegedly enroute to the dealership and now no one knows where it is. It was supposed to be delivered on Thursday. Jeep “Cares” has been useless.

It appears that this 3 month long ordeal is finally over. I got the Jeep back today. It was ultimately traced back to the Steering Control Module, which was replaced and road tested for 2 days with no additional issues. I have the Star case I can post for reference. I’m hoping that this is finally the end of it!

What did they say when you mentioned the connections behind the glove compartment and how they reacted to being touched?

when I picked it up yesterday, the service guy said the ESS was not functioning because some sort of battery sensor needed to reset itself after several long drives. I noticed also that my AUX switch bank is inactive and does not light up. The functions are still available in unconnect. I’m wondering if this is due to the alleged battery sensor or if something got messed up when they were working on the Jeep.

did they give you a part number on the steering module? My jeep is having the same issue apparently and they can’t seem to get the part here. I bought the jeep and it’s been in my possession for 24 hours out of 4 weeks. I’m so over it.

I will have to check the sheet. I know that the part was very hard to get. Allegedly there was only one in the country and it took weeks to get. If the story they told me is to be believed.

so far so good with mine. I took it on a road trip and no problems. The IBS Still has not reset and I still don’t have function on the auxillary switch bank.

Dealer changed my steering control module. Had it back since Tuesday of this week. Just did it again. Wipers, all kinds of dash warning lights, etc. I’m going to go check the batteries and see how old they are. Anyone else have any suggestions?

It could be the batteries, or there is some wiring harness up near the radiator that is known to rub on the frame and short out.

I’m still having issues with mine. The module fixed the problem, but the battery sensor never reset and I still have no function the auxiliary switches. So it has to go back to the dealer again!

Drove it around for 30 minutes and it went haywire again. I’m at a loss. Dealer doesn’t know what the heck is wrong either. I’ve owned this vehicle for 5 weeks and it’s been in my possession for 5 days. I’m so over it. It is literally my dream vehicle and yet it’s a POS.

Believe me I know how you feel. Mine was gone for over 3 months and I still have problems. Have you called the Jeep Wave number? It is run by Stellantis now. Open a case. The people are mostly useless but it puts the pressure on the dealer to resolve it. It will also give them access to star reports of similar incidents, such as mine. If yours is new you are fast approaching the lemon law threshold. If Stellantis doesn’t help, it’s time to lawyer up.

I found that the little wiring harness for the auxillary switches was unplugged in the passenger footwell. They must have forgotten it when tinkering around. I plugged it back in and incidentally the ESS warning went away. Not sure if they are related or not….
