I have read level 2 chargers are more efficient. But I'm not sure if it's significant enough to not get erased the first time you double charge in one day!
Yeah, I had wondered about efficiency [for different level / amp / output chargers], like does a 17.3 kWh charge use that exact same amount of electricity - I think with our smart charger we can get some analytics, but I just haven't messed with it much yet.

Depends on your utility company? In Colorado Xcel is going to time of day pricing, where usage during the day will be exorbitant, so if you have an electric vehicle you'll want to only charge it during the cheap, overnight hours and not bleed into the higher priced tiers. I assume you can program the car/charger to know when the optimum times are to charge, but I am just guessing...
Oh definitely, in fact, I've considered a TOU contract vs. our fixed rate, though the latter is pretty good at $0.10/kWh The TOU is $0.20 peak (6a-10a, 6p-10p), but only $0.03 off-peak, which is most of the day, so I'm thinking about use cases like a Tesla, where the off-peak rate would allow a full charge (~300 miles) for $2.46 :)

Yes to both, assuming a smart charger (and supporting hardware/software), but also the vehicle itself. I know in the uConnect App there's a charging schedule function, I'm assuming that's mirrored in the uConnect in the 4xe, but I haven't looked (since we're flat rate).

To account for the "buffer" in the battery (and to make math easier), I'm just roughly estimating 15kWh as a "fill up." That fill up seems to be good for about ~25 miles on average for people.

Based on my per kWh rate here in MA, it would cost me about $4 to "fill up" on electricity. Meanwhile a gallon of premium is still under $3 in most places around here. Sure I won't get 25 miles from a gallon of gas running around town, but it's still quite a bit more expensive for me to plug in rather than visit the gas station.

Anyhow... to summarize: I would recommend to find out your per kWh rate and then multiply that by 15 to figure out roughly what it would cost you to get roughly 25 miles of range.

Wow, that's high. I guess propane and other heating fuel sources must be popular up there.

I just do a easy figure that each time I go from 0 to 100 it is $1.70. I also know that is cheaper than gas, so even with my electric bill going up it is less total cost.
I use a similar method. We have time of use rates so I set the vehicle to only charge between the hours of 8 pm to 2 pm. (Jeep still is plugged in from 2pm to 8 pm for HVB conditioning).

A 0-100% charge costs us about $1.15 (including conversion losses) so that works out to about 5 cents per mile when driving electric.

I'm flat rate at all times, so I don't have to work off a schedule. The positive is I have low rates. The negative is overnight would be lower under some of these other systems. With a 2 hour charge time, I've already charged plenty during the day and used the electric again.

Agreed. A flat low rate is preferable. Our Time of Use schedule really only applies half the year. May thru Oct. The other half is fairly flat and fairly low. I will turn off the charge schedule during that time of year. :)
