For the last few days, I have been receiving the message, "Electric Mode Temporarily Unavailable and Fuel/Oil initializing". The vehicle is only 12 days old. Why am I seeing this already and so soon?

Was it sitting on the lot for a while? Sounds like FORM (Fuel/Oil Refresh Mode).

It's there to protect the fuel from getting stale if you only drive in electric, or the oil getting too much blow by fuel in it without a heat cycle to eliminate it.

I ordered is and picked it up about 2 weeks after it arrived at dealership.

I had it on Hybrid mode and it ran between electric and Gas for about a week or so, its only been happening for like the last few days.

So, because I do mostly local driving thats usually in electric mode, its not allowing electric for awhile to cycle through, correct?

Surprising FORM would hit that quickly. I'd give it some time, or at least until you do the Lubrication reset in the OM Hybrid supplement I posted above (20 mins at temp) before worrying too much.

Cranking up the heater can also prevent electric mode.

This is me last December, I crank up the heater to defrost when the weather is crappy, raining usually, but most times I use the heated steering and seats, and no heater while driving in electric, the heater uses a lot of battery, if you require the heater going just run the gas engine.

So am I right in thinking have a 4xe in a cold climate is a mistake? In MN and not MN cold - 752 in FORM mode for 4 days?

Depends how you use it, Toronto cold climate probably the same as MN, I've never had FORM issues, this is the 3rd winter.

So you know why the 4xe is in FORM?

Yep - pretty sure I do. The wife thinks it's really cool to drive everywhere on Electric. Glad to hear that you are NOT having the FORM issues. We really love the car.

Welcome to the world of Jeep false advertising for its 4xe. Warm weather it works fine, cold weather, it's no longer functioning like it should.

The 4xe works just fine in cold weather, remember you are not buying an EV, you are buying a PHEV with 21 miles of range.
That's why there is a class action lawsuit because they are not working as they should. Are you in dream world? I've had mine since last July and been in FORM more than EV mode. I wish it would self combust so I could collect on the insurance and replace it.

There are class action lawsuits for everything.

We've got 46k on ours now and it's never been in FORM. Of course we put 37s on it right away and have wheeled all over the country, so not a ton of forced electric mode.

You may be the exception. All you have to do is spend a little time pursuing this forum to see how many owners run into this issue.

As for class action lawsuits all over the place... attorney's don't take these cases unless there is a chance of recovering big bucks.

Obviously the poster is not as fortunate as you with only a couple weeks and his is in FORM.

Not sure you will convince owners that have this issue that it's just dumb luck that they got one or because of the way they are driving it. Anyone who buys a plugin hybrid expects to save money by running on EV, but when the vehicle won't run on EV then you're not saving anything.

I took mine to the dealer for resolution and they burned a half tank a gas, changed the oil, reset the oil indicator and two weeks later... back in FORM.

It's a real problem and just because a few owners (like you) think it's not a big deal because it doesn't happen to them will not convince those of us that have the problem that it's not an issue.

I'll let the courts decided and this will be the last PHEV that I ever buy. Total waste of money!
