My brother's 2018 3.6L 110K miles JLUR with P0401 SES. We have cleaned the EGR and replaced the EGR temp sender. Code will go away and then reappear again under acceleration. Any thoughts?

I have thought about swapping the EGR with the one from my 2019 JLUR. The EGR Cooler is just too much work to swap out to see if the issue goes to mine. What else could be the culprit?

Can you delete EGRs (whether legal or not) on gassers?

If so, I would go that route personally. Other option is buy you a diesel Wrangler, where you can delete/disable the EGR. 🤷‍♂️

I personally haven't had any EGR issues myself.. :bandit:

I had code p401 installed egr bought a good scanner did replace egr special function code went away 2000 miles later came back on it ended up being egr cooler partly clogged replaced cooler cleaned new egr valve and piping perform egr replaced special functions in scanner and reset pcm . No problems now’s 3000 miles later came. Going to clean egr cooler with royal purple cleaner and keep for next time . I have 92000 on 3.6 . Wasn’t hard to do just remove coolant and coolant tank . Remove egr valve and tubing , replace egr cooler and sensor on tubing reinstall and add coolant . Then have to do egr replacement in special functions and pcm reset .

Also replaced pvc valve on back of engine which was really tight. But wasn’t necessary. It wasn’t clogged but changed it anyways.

I meant to say purple power cleaner

One way or another you’re going to want to pull the EGR cooler. Clean or replace it. Or if you’re feeling lazy, just take the hoses off, spray a ton of carburetor cleaner and compressed air through, and see how it does.

Then replace it when that doesn’t work.

The cooler isn't all that bad to R&R. Pull the lower radiator hose and dump the coolant into a Home D mortar mixing tray, get to work on it. I have my doubts you can clean it without fully submerging in carb cleaner in an ultrasonic cleaner. But, there are pro cleaning services for doing it.

If you took note of how much carbon was in the EGR valve, imagine how bad a bunch of plates and fins in the cooler, upstream, look.

I was kinda hoping there was gonna be something here on gas engine EGR deletes. My 21 just threw a P0401 at 117k miles and i'm exploring my options if the cleaning doesn't work.
