Oh yea, works great! Open everything and blast away, then spend 15 minutes collecting up little things you wanted to keep inside the jeep from your driveway.
I start driver side and blow out towards the passenger side, my neighbor complained about all the wrappers and I said HEY, IT'S A JEEP THING BRO!!! Some people, seriously nerve me......

New JL owner and live where the blacktop ends. Gravel roads-Constant dust and wondering how well the soft tops seal out the dust. Also just wondering if I should stay with hardtop given the dust will constantly be settling on the outside as well. Not sure how that will clean off. Really like the looks of the best top half top, but don’t want to spend that kind of money and have dust trash my interior and the soft top itself. Thanks for any insights

I take my jeep out a lot on very dusty roads and trails here in Nevada. I learned to keep the hard top on and windows up when driving faster. If you drive slow you can have the drivers window down and maybe the passenger window also. Dust will get in and cover everything with a fine layer. I use either compressed air or micro fiber towels to grab all the dust.

I take the blower to the inside,
Leaf blowers if used soon after work great. I went wheeling with the rear window broken on my JLR and the JK's with me had no top or windows. I had 10x the dust in the cab they had. Any gab in the back turns it into a vacuum. Don't ask me how I broke my rear window.

Yup, I learned the leaf blower trick from a bunch of ATV guys out in Nevada. They would come back early evening and blow clouds of dust off those things. I started using one on the exterior and interior after dusty off road treks.

Swiffer dusters really do work btw. I usually just wipe down with a damp microfiber towel, or use one of these. The little “feathery” thingies on them really get into all the little crevices like AC vents and in between the plastic/metal trim parts.

We had a top down Uwharrie trip a couple of years ago. I'm still cleaning dust out of the nooks and crannies.

Reading about dust getting into the interior of JLs (and Jeeps in general), particularly certain comments where Jeep owners have implicated the tailgate vent, I just have to wonder, is that seemingly problematic vent REALLY necessary? Honestly, what harm, if any, would come from just sealing it over? I do NOT believe that the windows would thereby be blown out whenever a door was closed!

I can't help but point out that there are certain aftermarket interior tailgate mods that would appear to seal off the vent, such as air compressor mounts or tailgate tables. But I have yet to hear or read of anyone with those mods complain about their windows being blown out by the closing of a door, due to the blocked vent.

I have noticed the same thing.

I’ve been driving on some dusty trails lately; the amount of dust that gets in and collects around and on the inside of the tailgate and the door jams is significantly greater than the dust that got inside any of my JKs. I have to constantly clean the rubber seals around the liftgate and the tailgate; they get shockingly dusty.

No, I have never removed the doors on my JL.
What Aldo said. It’s a Jeep…

People used to complain that it was hard to close the doors on JKs; you had to slam them vigorously to shut them.

My guess is Jeep decided to do something about it and made those vents on the tailgate bigger.

Now people complain that dust gets in.

You just can't win. ?

Try running the HVAC fan on defrost high )or any other setting which pulls in outside air) with all the windows closed.

While I never tried it on the Jeep I know my travel trailer used to look like a cloud inside after driving down a dusty road. My fix was to close everything up as tight as possible except leave the roof vent over the fantastic fan open and have the fan on high sucking in as much outside air as possible, effectively creating a positive air pressure inside the trailer.

Now I can go down the nastiest, dustiest, dirt roads and have zero dust when we get to camp.

TJs had the tailgate vents as well.

I agree with the pressurized comment when you have top/doors on. It does help. In my experience, soft top/hard top doesn't provide too much of a difference when it comes to dust

I'll tell you though...having the top/doors off in these JLs invites dirt/sand to just be sucked right in when going down a dirt road. I've never seen anything like it.

There's one thing that does help though. Pull the carpet and Line-X the interior. Helps when it rains and also when it comes to cleaning it out with a hose. ?

There is a vent for air that facilitates the opening closing of doors in the tailgate behind the tire/brake light. I would think that might be where it is getting in unless there are telltale signs around the rear window indicating that is where it is coming in. my .02 cents
I use a silicone based spray that is used to soften the rubber weather strips for the slides on RV's. Clean you rubber door seals and spray it on.
You can find this stuff at RV shops/dealers.
