Thank you everyone for your advice and suggestions, they were all helpful and appreciated. Basically it was exactly what I needed to hear, now I have full confidence to go out there and have a nice vacation and utilize my jeep as well. 🙏
Still waiting for the Jeep beach pics

Galveston here. Echo what others have said.
4hi. ALL SAND IS DIFFERENT. Some soft, some hard, pay attention.

dont drive in the water. Avoid puddles if you can.
wash the jeep soon after you leave the beach paying careful attention to undercarriage.

ALSO. Have some basic recovery gear. Tow strap, soft shackles.
i especially like my d ring block that goes in a hitch receiver. this is mainly for the other guy so I can put a safe recovery point on their vehicle if they need to pull me or I need to pull them.

i also have a pair of small traction boards I carry always and a pair of full sized board I carry to beach or muddy areas.

lots of good videos on sand recovery, mostly in Australia.
google Ronny Dahl.

What beach you going to?

SBB
I'm not exactly sure what beach we're going to just yet, somewhere between Nags head & Frisco.

I'm a little nervous about getting stuck, everyone has wide tires except me. Today is the day, we'll see how it goes.

Air down, go easy on the throttle, and you will be fine.

I was too at first. Then I saw regular cars driving out there. Air down and have fun.

I live in Atlantic Beach. I'm going to pick up my permits today and beach driving starts the 15th. During beach driving season, I lower my tires to 20 psi and leave them there until next April when the season ends. [Unless I'm going to take a trip instead of just driving around town.]

I know you are a little nervous but when you get the feel for it, you will have a great time!

Remember to turn off traction control.

Take pictures!

I'll be down the week of the 15th in Carova, prob about an hour or so away from Nags head. Don't worry about getting stuck, there will be people around to pull you out, but 9 times out of 10, airing down should do the trick. Do it before you get on the beach. If my grand cherokee can do it, no doubt you should be fine. I have seen Subarus and Mazdas driving on the beach, in soft sand doing fine as well.

The one thing I noticed nobody mentioned was no sudden movements. Take it easy accelerating, braking and turning.
Have fun and enjoy yourself.

My first trip to OBX was around 1989. I had a Chevy S-10 Blazer, with OEM alloy wheels. I don't remember the size, but I doubt they were over 30" in diameter.

I aired down to about 24psi, and could go anywhere, but my vehicle struggled. I had to keep the RPM's up because of constant wheel spin. An old beat up Subaru drove past me, and made it look easy. He was running 16-18 PSI.

I couldn't believe the difference a few PSI makes.

1st time, my jeep on a beach.

I felt ready; I have a winch, recovery gear, a sare tire, 3 jacks, block of wood, viair pump, tools, new rod & reel, bait, license, permit, aired down to 20 psi.

We entered somewhere near Hatters and stayed to the far right. I was following my friend in his Toyota Tundra. I could tell the sand was deep, it was slow moving, the tires wanted to spin. He didn't air down and almost immediately sank in the fresh, wind blown, powdery, 6" of sand. The wind was fierce! I stopped and walked over to see if I could offer any help, I noticed my tires where also deep in the sand. To my understanding he stopped and decided to shift into 4L but was having some difficulties shifting his new truck. I asked if he was in 4wd? He said I think so but when he throttled nothing was happening. He asked are the tires spinning? I said no, none of them are, they're not even trying. He did some more shifting with the 4x4 knob on the dash and hit the gas pedal, the rear end sank super fast! Stop, stop, stop! Its in 2wd. He did more 4H - 4L shifting, he said the instrument panel lit up like a xmax tree. This brought on the oh s**t look on my face, I could feel it. He turned off the truck and restarted it. The dash cleared, he successfully shifted into 4wd and was able to drive out of the deep, powder soft sand towards the beach. This isn't where I wanted to be, it made me a little nervous but it's where the sand was more firm or packed down, I don't know but that's where everyone else was driving.

I believe he may have shifted between 4H and 4L without being in neutral and his truck went into some kind of safe mode. His brand new MT Baja Boss AT tires did very well. My skinny, MT Geolanders did just fine too, I was impressed. After this little mishap it was all down hill. The fish were biting and everyone had a wonderful time and y'all were right, I'm glad I used my jeep! I can't wait to go back next year.

Witness me!
