Having an issue with my brand new 22 JLU Back in august I ran into a sweet climate control gremlin where the drivers side goes to full cold and the passenger side goes to full heat whenever a setting using the floorboard is selected. The most extreme being the defroster/floor combo which results in 58 degree air on the drivers side and 157 on the passenger side. It’s been to the dealership 5 times since 8/12 for this same issue. Has anyone had a similar issue?

Here’s the summary of the dealership visits:
8/12 diagnostic and function check. All actuators and parts operating to spec. Possibly software bug couldn’t replicate. (I immediately replicated the issue the next morning)

9/2 another check still cannot replicate as I’ve described the issue to them. (I replicate the issue on the way home)

9/12 tech replicates the issue finally. Says everything is in working order but definitely not right. Checks all manuals/internal documentation and the tech2tech site. Only one other case was documented on tech2tech and no solution was found. STAR case opened. Asked to reschedule for a day that I can drop it off and let them have it for a day or two

9/21 the tech that replicated the issue is on vacation and a new tech is working on it. Can’t get the failure to happen again but guesses it’s one of the temp probes on the floor vents. Ordered parts to replace the sensor but they are at least 2 weeks back ordered.

10/18 they had it for the entire day while I was at work and replaced the sensor. Told me it should be all good to go. I turned on the defroster/floor setting on the way out of the parking lot and it immediately goes back to the full cold/full hot split.

At what point does this thing become a fucking lemon? I’m going into a PA winter with an infant and heat that barely halfway works.

This may be ridiculous but you didn't post what temp the driver & passenger sides are set to. Driver and passenger can be set to different temps. Maybe driver is all the way down and passenger is at max?

It does this under literally any temp settings. I can set it to sync both sides at 75 and I end up with drivers blowing at 55 and pax at 158 when measured by household IR thermometer

This doesn’t qualify as a lemon by any stretch of the imagination.

It probably needs the hvac Control module replaced.

also, this isn’t very cold. How hot is it outside? Is that as cold as your A/C gets?

Definitely lemon in Ca if its been in 5 times and hasn't been fixed.
Please tell me you don't give legal advice for a living.

"verified normal operation" would never qualify as a "repair attempt".

Sounds like during all this the dealer has had the vehicle for a few hours at a time, one working day once? There is no serious attempt at repair here whatsoever.

You're never going to get anywhere waiting around in the lobby or rushing them to get an answer.

1st time they had it for an hour or so. 2nd time they had it for an hour or so. 3rd time they had it for 4-5 hours. 4th time they had it for a day and a half. And the 5th time (yesterday) they had it for the entire day.

how is diagnosing the issue as a failed sensor and then replacing said sensor not count as an attempt to repair.

im just getting fucking tired of being told that they can’t replicate the issue after I described exactly how it happens and then I make it happen as I’m pulling out of the lot. Every time I need to make an appointment there’s at least a 2 week lag to get it back in the shop.

You’ve had one repair attempt. Maybe next they’ll figure it out and replace the HVAC control module and it will actually be fixed.

It will never be fixed until you leave it at the shop for several days.

As long as I get a loaner they can have it as long as they need I don’t give a shit. They’re the ones that keep kicking it out after a few hours. And yea maybe next time they’ll figure it out but at the rate of appointment availability that means a diagnosis in 2 weeks and a repair 3 weeks after that which is well into November almost December. And if they done get it at that appointment then we are looking at a repair in January. Like I said I’ve got a toddler that I can’t be driving in the winter with no heat. The only way I can get heat in the car is through the dash setting only and that doesn’t get the car warm enough on its own.

The plenums are pneumatic, and junk/grease can easily clog them. Check that the air management system is mechanically working and clean. Had this happen on the pneumatic headlights of a 'Vette. Solved with a little wire cleaning the air tubes. Sounds to me that your heating system is solid but the air management might need a little more diagnostic. Not a lemon, just a new relationship needing attention. :) IMHO

They inspected the system during the 3rd appointment and verified all internal components were in damages and functioning as designed. Using diagnostic tools they could get all the settings to operate as indicated on the screen. It only fails when using the mode button to select defrost/floor heat.

lmfao, no, they are not pneumatic. They are driven by small electric motors powered by the HVAC control module.
