Noob question. On my dads YJ and TJ the doors only stop was the nylon strap. Fast forward to his gladiator there is still the strap but now the full doors have the door swing stop bar with the half open (cam?)? What’s the purpose of the door stop strap if it has a stop like every other car on the road? Can you remove the door stop bar?

Correct. You can unscrew the door stop bolts and push in the bar so you’re down to just the strap. I’d do that, keep the electrical door connector unhooked, and leave out the door hinge bolts.

Made it quicker / easier to swap on or off my Sport doors with roll down windows. I just had to pull the strap and lift off the door.

Yes, you can remove the bolt for the metal door detent, then push the rod back into the door. The strap loop is probably just insurance against pulling the plug out when removing doors.

The purpose of the strap is to bundle the electrical wires going to the door. Most vehicles use a rubber tube for this purpose but Jeep has to allow for end users removing the doors.

I take the doors off often. For the first couple times I was bolting the door detent back on, but it's both time consuming, and I was scratching the paint. I pushed them in the door and haven't connected them since. I also got guide pins and stopped putting back the hinge bolts.

Now I just unhook the electrical and nylon loop and lift the door off.
