I have chips on both top and bottom front and rear, so all 8 hinges have somthing. Along with the rear doors and door sill.

I live down a half mile long gravel road and I can hear the rocks beating mine up. So I'm installing the Mopar production step rails this week. I looked at a JL with them on the dealership lot and I believe they will prevent the doors and hinges from being attacked by gravel.

Obviously, if you drive gravel roads you also want to make sure your wheels have the factory offset so that your tires will stay tucked under the fender flares. The flares can't do their job if there's rubber sticking out.

I had the issue with my 2013 JKUR but no where near that bad. My GF lives on a dirt road and I had aftermarket wheels. I wonder if they have skimped on the paint for this year. I would be bummed and Im sorry yours looks that bad. I purchased some clear 8mil adhesive to put on mine. Looks like I better do it sooner rather than later.
Yeah... they've skimped on the paint. Didn't even completely paint my fender. Need to get into the dealer for warranty pics, also working with Jeep Cares.
The light grey speckles you see are the primer showing through the paint.

Holy crap that is horrible. Sorry to hear that.
Side note. I actually had a new grand cherokee and there were so many issues the dealer let me get out of it and get in to a new one at no extra cost. If new paint or quality control issues worry you you might ask about getting out of it and in to another one.

Just got off the phone with a Xpel wrap installer and his only issue with wrapping my Jeep is the external hinges for the hood and doors. He thought maybe plastidip but I need to give it some thought

That's good to know but my QC issues have only been thus so far...

Compass stopped working but a simple disconnect of all three negative battery terminals overnight fixed it.
Check engine light came on but same disconnect over night fixed it. This one has been documented with Jeep Cares.
Paint issue above. Documented.
Fender vent on same fender not seated right.

So it would be a pretty hard sale to demand a new Jeep based on that. I've heard of guys breaking down the day after they bought and a myriad of other problems that I agree would be worthy of ditching the Jeep for another one.

When the first shipments of JKs were going out back in late 2006/early 2007 the same things were happening. Guys were posting pictures of body panels not even covered by paint, especially around the doors and hinges. In some cases it looked like the robot that sprayed them missed entire sections.

I’ve gone down a service road twice now and two of my hinges have rock chips. Also both rear plastic fenders have quite a few rock chips too. I need to switch out those rubicon sliders for something that will help block rocks ASAP.

After seeing that this could be a issue for all of the above reasons we are starting development on pre cut paint protector film pieces for the effected areas to make it easy for every one that wants to protect these areas with out the hassle of buying a roll and hand cutting the PPF to fit.
Count me in on the paint protective film. A little preventing measures go along way. PM me when ready, I can do PayPal. Thanks

This is a little baffling. I never had this much of a problem with spray/gravel in my JK using the same wheels/tires. I'll be adding some JCR sliders and will see if that helps deflect, but I'm amazed at how much more of an issue rock/road spray have been on this JL.

The wider axles on your JL are pushing your tires (via the wheels) out further than they were on the JK. I bet that’s a bit of the cause.
