IF You don't pay taxes in the jurisdiction is what I stated. I'm anti tax for most everything, including paying for the stupid and lazy.
It just bends my pushrod that we pay for helicopter cheeseburger recovery and recreational flying, in their private flying club, day in and day out, then when someone has an emergency suddenly they cry about all the costs of operating that helicopter.

I was a career Navy Helo SAR crewman for 27 years. Did a shore tour flying inland SAR out of Whidbey Island WA for three years. Our primary job was supporting bad days for VAQ folks flying out of Whidbey. In reality though 99.999% of our rescues were for foolish civilians on Mt Rainier, Mt Hood and Mt Jefferson and it was absolutely fantastic real world training. Definitely tax dollars well spent because all of us who served there eventually moved on to the real world stuff in the Afghan mountains where our skills learned rescuing foolish Americans at home made all those wounded troop recoveries in the Afghan mountains as easy and automatic as tying your shoes.

Also. Never count on a tree being nearby. My basic kit is a well used 30 year old Pull Pal, a spare double braid winch line (I love the double braid cuz it's durable as... but I can't splice it reliably due to the AUV coating so I carry a full spare, and yet I've never had a double braid winch line fail), 200 feet of DYMAX and a Factor 55 fast fid (and tape measure and really nice tailors sheers to get the bury and taper right), boards, wood saw, pick axe, hatchet, sledge hammer, halligan and shovel, 40 liters of water, energy bars, 2 gallons of diesel, hi lift, tree saver and a handful of soft shackles and two spools for complicated off camber recoveries. Plus basic mechanics tools. Cuz stuff happens. Why carry all this stuff? I'm incapable of asking for help. Except for my partner. But that's why she's my partner. I'd rather eat a gallon bag of d...s. than call for help. But I'll help you in a hot second.

Not many people know what a Pull-Pal is.

I actually prefer to go alone, however that being said, I have enough tools and spare parts to pretty much get me out of there, including a Garmin and reach for medical emergencies besides the basic tool kit, I carry jacks a portable welder portable power system extra water extra gas, the pro level Glue tread, patch kit, air compressor, full on spare tire, extra food, water, sleeping bag, self protection equipment, but of everything that I carry the most important thing that I use is my common sense
