Hello Jeeper family!

The auto shop I deal with asked me to provide lug nut sets myself to go with the new wheels (and tires) I ordered with them.

Some of my friends and shops told me nut sets should come with those new wheels so this shop is upselling me…

Wondering what’s your experience when doing aftermarket wheels? My OE nuts won’t fit at all?

I ordered (Fuel off-road covert wheel brand) with the shop.

Thanks for sharing your experience in advance.

Tire Rack did include a set of lug nuts with my wheel/tire order. The OEM nuts wouldn't have fit.
Edit: The package that I purchased did explicitly include lug nuts, with a note that the OEM nuts weren't compatible.

By way of example, @Tredsdert experienced the same thing where his aftermarket wheel installation was concerned.

The shop may be offering you an upsell, but it is likely based on their own experience/necessity.

Spend the $$ to ensure a safe and proper fit. 👍

TL;DR: Your fiends are wrong, wheels have never come with lug nuts unless you bought lug nuts with your wheels, or you got a package deal!

Your friends are wrong... Unfortunately.

$1,600 for new Wheels, Icon Rebound Pro's, interlock wheels, the only thing better than beadlock.

The shop who installed them, told me last minute that my factory lug nuts won't fit and that I would need some spline lug nuts with a different acorn angle. Either way they had some on site, black Gorilla brand steels, said they normally cost $80 but they sell them to me for $40 (because I was giving them a lot of business at the time).

I bought quite a few set of wheels in my lifetime, and I've never seen the set ever come with lug nuts. If you're lucky and you do your research, you might find yourself a nice set of wheels that your factory lug nuts will work with, but I've never heard of a company selling Wheels with a lug nut to go with it, unless of course they're selling you a package deal, but then they'd still be two separate products.

No, the majority of the time they do not. Some vendors will some times include them buy not usually.

Nothing that $20 via Amazon prime cant fix.

Very few aftermarket wheels are designed to work with oem lug nuts. Its great when they do. AEMs do i believe.

I've never seen a set of wheels come with lug nuts. Too much variety in lug stud size and thread pitch between cars/trucks that might use the wheels. And a lot of times people may want to reuse lug nuts if they can. Or add splined lugs instead of acorns. Or something like that.

I've seen package deals by resellers like Tire Rack. But it's always a package deal.

The vendor asked me if I needed lug nuts, without mentioning the stock acorn ones don’t work 🤨. I found out the hard way that splines are required.
Mid $300’s of McGard lugs and locks can’t be used, now you tell me the replacement Gorilla’s rust …. excellent. 😖
he didn’t mention the short valve stems supplied don’t work with TPMS either, longer available ones that did had to be used.
My OCD is agitated every time I look at them

I’ve bought at least four sets of wheels and tires from Tire Rack and they always come with lug nuts.

Agree with others, I've purchased Lord knows how many sets of wheels in my time and they never came with lugs.

All of my after market wheels, have been purchased from Discount tire. They have never came with the nuts, so I would purchase them from DT.
