Here's my DIY 50 cal. ammo cans that I attached to the tailgate. They are lockable and removal. I keep my air compressor in one and some recovery gear and other misc. things in the other. I needed something secure to keep items when I have my hardtop off.

Could you provide a little detail on how you attached them to the tailgate? No worries about that plastic grill holding up a couple of loaded metal canisters?

Looks great!

Once you remove the top trim piece, you have access to threaded holes directly on the tailgate. I will post detailed pictures later on.

Ahhh now I see, at first I thought you had them attached to the lower plastic grill. I haven't popped that upper trim piece out yet, though I understand that's where the TrailRail system will supposedly go (whenever it's released). Got it, thanks.

I was wondering what was behind that panel - gives me some ideas. Like the ammo boxes. Was at Harbor Freight tools today amd noticed they had a ton of them for cheap.

Wow. What an awesome idea. Definitely going to consider doing this once we actually get our JLU. Thanks for the tip!

Could they not be mounted so that once the tailgate is closed, the latches can’t be opened? This way avoiding needing to put a lock on them? Do you have a pic with the tailgate closed? Thanks

Dimensions of the cans would be appreciated as well. Sorry about all the questions. Have a weekend trip planned next weekend and hoping to take out JLU if it comes in before then. Would like to have the boxes before so I can build this as quickly as possible before we leave.

Anyone know how this setup works with freedom panels inside the storage bag in the cargo area?
