I dont understand why I would replace the entire heard if I can just replace the screen. Yes...they should pay and I hope that will happen once I get a clear course of action.

I believe the digitizer is glued to the LCD and it has to be carefully removed from the LCD and attached to the existing LCD. Folks are using these to fix 8.4" head units which the digitizer is delaminating from the LCD panel.
Ah, okay. I stand corrected. I thought that was the whole display. Go for it anyway.. : )

You are correct.
So the part damaged on the OPs original post is the same part you replace when your screen is delaminating. If I’m wrong, someone jump in here and correct me.

I would start there because you have nothing to lose at this point - if that doesn’t work, buy an 8.4”from the marketplace on this forum and replace it yourself. They can be had for around $800, sometimes less.
Swapping units out is a breeze and not something I’d pay anyone to do. There are plenty ofYouTube videos that show how to do it. Takes me 15 minutes to pull the dash apart and disconnect the radio.

Whatever you do, do NOT buy an 8.4” Uconnect from Infotainment. May seem like a safe choice but they are ridiculously overpriced.
Maybe show that picture to the parents of the kid that jacked up your screen.

Hey, I'd give it a shot if it was my radio but I'm into things like that.

As you said "don't have a lot to lose.could be fun". If I had to guess, since heat is delaminating these things over time maybe applying some heat would loosen the glue enough to get it off. The trick is not to heat it up enough to loosen the glue without damaging the LCD.

I have a Sahara with the upgraded display size. It appears my young nephew rubbed something across the screen causing damage to the screen. Is this something easily replaced by a dealer?

Replace it easy, but have to configure with the car

Sue your nephew in small claims court... Sure, the judge may garnish his allowance for a decade or so, but he'll learn his lesson. :)

You unplug the old one and plug in the new. The new unit “learns” what options/settings are available on your JL and it’s good to go. It’s the epitome of plug and play.

Surprised nobody has made the popular “time to upgrade” comment. ?‍♂

If you are still in need of assistance I can help you out. I sent mine to a guy in central CA and he installed a new screen for a total of about $200. Was completely legit and was a brand new screen and has been flawless. PM me if you want to connect for more details. Seriously, I was on the border of a complete head unit replacement and so happy I found this guy.

Cheers

If you are technically capable go for it. It's like cracking the screen of an iPhone. If you know how you can replace the screen. Otherwise, new phone. If you can get the parts you might be able to remove the head unit itself and bring it to a place that does cell phone screen repairs?
