Tried calling the shop and no one will answer. Twice today.

It's 79 miles miles away so can't just run down there.

Those 20-somethings know more about tires than you ever will.

Yes, five-year old tires should be replaced.

Yes, lug nuts can swell (this was shown to me last Saturday at a Discount Tire when I was getting tire replaced on my daughter's car - they couldn't get the lug wrench over the edges of the nuts).
Provided they are not worn out or damaged, tires do not simply age out after 5 years

Strange… I have dealt with DT (three different shops) for decades and have had exceptional service buying many sets of tires, mounting of wheels I purchased elsewhere, etc. All kinds of help in making the right purchase and install options.

Your shop must be the exception.

I’ll put myself in the corner with a dunce cap and reflect on my poor choices
That's not what you're doing in the corner and we damn well know it... :)

They do in most of Arizona. The high heat and low humidity takes a real toll on tires. I lived there for 7 years and had to replace trailer tires after 3 years due to all of the weather checking.

How long do tires last in Phoenix, Arizona? Important Factors

How Long Do Tires Last in Phoenix, Arizona?
In Phoenix, tires usually last 3-4 years, or 40,000 miles. Why is this? The short answer is that the rubber compounds in tires don’t last nearly as long on Arizona’s hot desert roads as they do in most other places. As a result, you might be replacing your tires a little earlier than normal, especially if they wear down below 2/32″ of their tread depth.

Another issue affecting how long tires last in Phoenix is the region’s intense sunlight. Prolonged exposure to UV radiation from the sun can cause tire sidewalls to degrade over time. So, unless you’re using tire covers or parking in the shade, your vehicle’s tires are likely taking a brutal sun beating.

Google thermo-oxidation and tires. Tires in desert and near desert climates can age faster with detrimental effects after 4-6 years

Don't trust them! Those 20 somethings know nothing. My sister went for an air check and the kid told her the "lug nuts were swollen" and she needed new tires because they were 5 years old.

I guess tires would have even shorter life on the surface of the sun but the user ”D” who originally questioned the 5 year advice he was given lists his home as Tennesse in his profile.

You should see a set of Michelins here in South Texas after a few years. Full of dry rot/weather cracks. Same with BFGs, but not as bad. My pickup has 6 year old BFG 315s with about 1/2 tread left, no cracks but pretty damn hard tread now. It’s parked in a metal barn when not being used.

I'd cancel the whole order with them and go through other channels. What nonsense that a local shop can cancel an order you placed online and replace it at higher cost without permission. No way in hell I'd put up with that.
This. When I ordered my Jeep from the factory through a local dealer I was prepared the entire time to walk away from it if they started pulling anything. And that included the day I went to pick it up.

On October 8th, I bought a new 2024 Jeep Sport S 4xe and negotiated a dealer-installed 2" Mopar lift so I could run 35" tires and be covered by the warranty.

On October 9th, I went online to Discount Tire and ordered a set of four wheels and tires for the Jeep...
Did you figure out if you ordered the -38 offset or 0 offset?

Just FYI you don’t need new wheels to run 35” tires with the Mopar 2” lift.

I have the Mopar 2” lift on my JLUW with 35x11.5 tires on the stock rims with no rubbing. Just say’n. Now if you wanted new wheels that’s fine.

Offer bigfoot a case of beer to rip tires you want off another truck.
Actually, he might do it for a bag of peanuts.

Drink the beer yourself... 😫

The wheels I ordered online were listed as "0" offset, hub centric, and $200.
