saw a thread for those that want a bigger battery. I don't.

What common battery at a place like autozone would be a direct replacement for a 23k rubicon XR main and aux battery?

ain't looking to get fancy.

I just bought a new pair of batteries last night at Napa Auto Parts. I used the "search by vehicle" and it recommended two batteries for each the main and the aux battery. The larger capacity of the two suggested sizes for each the main and aux are the ones you want if you have the factory tow package.

They both were drop-in replacements.

Note that I did have to transfer the threaded studs from the aux battery to new one. They use e-torx (inverse torx) sockets to remove them.

Two years ago I walked up to the counter at my local O’Reillys Auto Parts, gave them my vehicle make, model year and powertrain. They went two the back and brought out two of their Super Start batteries. Don’t ask me what models they are. All I remember is I paid $107 for the auxiliary battery and $199 for the main one.

Super Start batteries are known to be pretty good. They are made by one of the large battery manufacturers. Let’s face it, any battery is better than that garbage Jeep insists in installing at the factory.

All my electronic gremlins went away as soon as I replaced the batteries. I use ESS daily: the engine shuts off at the lights and the auxiliary battery keeps everything else running, including the steering wheel and seat heaters in sub-freezing temps. Everything works like it’s supposed to.

The bigger 94R battery has more cranking amps and in most, if not all cases is exactly the same price. It takes about 3 seconds to remove the plastic spacer that's used with the smaller battery. There's literally no reason not to go bigger.

the reason is I don't feel like it. I want a same size as factory back in. And it want it secured in the battery box the same way.

Do you have the factory tow package? The JL comes from the factory with a larger battery if you do. Wasn't sure if I expressed that clearly in my earlier reply. I believe the main is physically larger and more cranking amps. Whereas I don't think the aux is any larger, but does have more cranking amps. I could have the physical size thing mixed up, though.

@chicknwaffles

You apparently have a 2023 JL .... I'm curious why you are here asking about replacement batteries for it...

IF you think your 2023's batteries need replacing , why aren't you going to the dealer and asking that they load test each battery and replace each under warranty if they fail load testing?

Okay, then just get the smaller of the two options. In your cast that would be the AGM BCI No. 48, 760 Amps for the main. And AGM 180 Amps for the aux (size might be 400, but not sure on the smaller one).

@Rhinebeck01 has posted several options in various threads about which one to get.

Just getting ahead of the game. don't think it needs to be replaced now.

The bigger battery is in fact, an OEM offering, and it is secured exactly the same way. It's actually a better fit as it fills the battery tray completely without the need for a spacer.

But if you don't like more for your money, the group 48 will work just fine.

Look at the CCA ratings for batteries the physical size of OEM and get the one with the highest CCA. It’ll fit/look same as stock, use same hold downs etc. but will give you a bit more juice. You’ll never get in trouble for have a more capable battery. Got this advice from my old Dad more than 5 decades ago, and it’s never failed me. Do the same for my motorcycles and my tractors.
