I have a 23 392 I just performed the first oil change.

before changing the dipstick was at the full mark.

after draining and changing the filter I put in 7qts of oil.

after waiting a few minutes I checked the dipstick and it was barely reading any oil.

I performed a start up on the jeep and let it run until the idle dropped and then shut off. I then let it sit another 20 minutes. Same reading

I added 1/2 qt and now the reading is at the middle of the dipstick.

are there variations in the dipstick accuracy? Should I just be trusting the amount I fill and ignore the dipstick? A full quart low on the dipstick is concerning.

My 22 392 takes 7.5 qt to reach the upper mark of the dipstick. I’ve done oil change twice so far and it’s pretty accurate to me. I normally check the oil level after 5-10 minutes parked from a 30 ish miles run.

And be sure to push it all the way in - clear down, not like some do where they don't fully engage the top of the stick with the tube.
I've yet to see one not accurate.

My 3.0L has the 'smushed' metal end with the hatch marks. Oil does not stick to the top half of the hatch marks, but does stick to the 'round' portion at the top that is tapered to where it meets the steel cable. I plan to add some groves so the oil does. Makes it kind of hard to read. The dipstick in my JK was better.
