Howdy all,

My wife has a 2022 Wrangler Willys, 4 door, 3.6l, stick. Has 35000 miles on it and it is time (maybe a little past time) to do the first diff gear oil change. Much to my dismay, there are no drain plugs. So, pulling the cover is necessary. I called the Jeep dealer, gave them the VIN so that they could tell me what axles I had. I was told Dana 220 on the rear and Dana M186 on the front.

After reading the spec sheet for those I purchased 75w-140 for both. I also purchased Lube Locker gaskets. LLR-D044 (rear) and LLR-D030 (front). Both of which are wrong. The axles I have are 12 bolts, these gaskets are 10 bolts. I also read that the fasteners from the covers should not be reused. I understand that the gaskets on the Jeep are reusable, but I like to have an extra set on hand (experience has taught me).

So, 2 questions:

1) Other than getting them from Jeep, what gaskets are best? I prefer Lube Locker, but I do not see a 12 bolt version of what I need.

2) I assume the best place to get the new cover bolts is Jeep?

Thanks,
CC

Reuse the bolts & gaskets, no issues in doing so. 75W-140 is not factory spec; but you're clearly free to use it if you wish.

For anyone who has changed diff covers (to possibly gain drain plugs as they have been deleted off newer builds)....do you still fill to the bottom of the fill plugs? Since the actual volume may have changed a bit due to mfg of the aftermarket diff cover?

In the case of a the ARB covers, which I intend to get, the fill plug is on top. It has an attached dipstick. My assumption is that you would NOT fill it all of the way up. I am guessing there is a mark on the stick that coincides with the fill level of the factory cover.

Here are the covers I am getting for mine:

Front:

They do have a dip stick but no marks. You need to do that yourself.

I went with the aFe differential covers to gain the drain plugs and they have built-in fill level check holes. Very simple process!

Lube Locker may make a nice product, but they're sure behind the curve on product design (models offered).

Going thru the same thing now. Bought ARB for front and back. I too am using 75-140W Motul Competition gear lube. I found out Lube Locker does not make a gasket for my Dana 186 and Dana 200 covers. I guess they figured since Jeep started using reusable gaskets there was no use in offering them. It is a fact that Lube Locker do not make them.

If the LLR-D044 doesn’t fit the JL, would the LLR-D44HD fit? It looks right at least!

Not mine. Both my front (186) and rear (220) have 12 bolts. Unless I am really bad at counting, all of the "Dana" parts made by Lube Locker are 10 bolt.

I can't find offerings from Lube Locker on any of the Dana next gen (AdvanTEK) axles. I have a (next gen) M-275 rear axle in my Superduty... nothing available from LL.
I think the OEM diff gaskets on these Jeep AdvanTEK axles are good for MANY fluid changes as long as you're cleaning surfaces, and torque the bolts properly.

The model is the Dana 44 AdvanTEK, which is the standard front and rear axle for the Jeep Wrangler JL Rubicon models and the front axle for the Rubicon and Sport/Sahara models equipped with the upgrade option.

Key details about the Dana 44 AdvanTEK in the JL

  • Identification: It is specifically labeled as the "AdvanTEK" model for the JL generation.
  • Availability:
    • Standard on: All Rubicon models, which have a Dana 44 front and rear axle.
  • Yes, the front and rear Dana 44 covers on a Jeep Wrangler JL are different in shape because they are for different axles: the front is a Dana M210 and the rear is a Dana M220, and they have specific, non-interchangeable designs. The front axle cover has a distinct shape adapted to the M210 axle, while the rear cover is shaped for the M220 axle.
  • Different Axle Models: While both are "Dana 44s" by marketing name, the JL front and rear axles are actually different, new-generation Dana designs: the M210 front and M220 rear.
  • Specific Cover Shapes: Each cover is designed specifically for its corresponding axle. A cover made for the M210 front axle will not fit the M220 rear axle, and vice versa.
  • Design Differences: The specific shape, bolt patterns, and features like fluid level ports are different between the front and rear covers because the axles themselves have distinct designs.
From an email from Lube Locker.
The 2018-2023 Jeep Lubelocker gaskets haven’t been released yet unfortunately.
They will be in the next batch of releases, hopefully by the end of this year or early next year.
2024 Jeep forwar are in R&D stage.

I am going to buy my gaskets from the dealer, most parts stores don't seem to have them.
The lube is a different weight from the front to the rear.
