AEV calls or 18-23 ftlbs so I will use 18 ft/lbs and call it good.

Well, I ended up using the provided bolts that came with my new Spicer AdvanTEK covers and the factory gasket. Interestingly, the provided bolts were the exact same length as the factory bolts: 20mm. I had purchased 25mm grade 10.9 bolts but even with the added thickness of the diff cover flange and the gasket the 25mm bolts were a tad too long and bottomed out in the four bolt holes nearest the axle tubes. The 25mm bolts would be OK at the other locations since the holes are drilled and tapped through the axle housing. Hopefully I won't have any issues with the 20mm bolts and the factory gasket.

Hi there — I'm in the same situation, debating between using RTV or the OEM gasket. I was wondering if you have any advice now that some time has passed since your install. Have you experienced any leaks? Also, how did you go about torquing your diff cover bolts?

I did reuse my factory gaskets and the bolts supplied with the Dana covers. I only torqued them to 20 ft/lbs and have had no leaks or issues.

@Roky what do we do? Trust the RTV or go with reusing the gasket? I can’t think of a solid technical reason why one would prefer a gasket over RTV besides ease of use. As long as you get a closed loop across the points where it seals I’d think you’d be fine.

Is this the 0w-20 thread all over again?

I have reused the gasket several times, when I changed diff oil, then when I did my gears, then after break in, etc… no leaks, holding up great….. this ain’t your granddaddy’s gasket nowadays…….🤣

I was hesitant to reuse the gasket on mine but did and zero seepage and super easy..I wiped the gasket down with brake cleaner and reused it and next time I will reuse it again. it is a heavy duty quality gasket.

I guess I only used 20 cause that's what my little torque wrench maxed out at...

Good thread. Just installed a set of the Dana Spicer Nodular covers on my 25 Rubi. I went with factory gaskets and 25lbs on the bolts I could get to. Three bags of Valvoline 75w-90 was enough and can of brake cleaner. Easy peasy.
