Can someone give me some insight to my problem. I changed the Air Filter, Cabin Filter and Fuel Filter yesterday and I am pretty sure I didn't do the priming procedure correctly cause my Jeep had a rough start and than died. I was able to get it running and ran it for 5 mins in garage. I charged the battery to full capacity overnight and went run it for about 5 miles. Everything starts up fine and sounds fine! My issue is the Check Engine Light is on and I believe it is because I had a start and than it died ( probably starved it of diesel or air in line I presume} My question is: Does the check engine light eventually turn off after running a few miles, do I need to have dealer clear code, or does my Tazer do anything to fix this issue. Again, CEL on but Jeep is running fine, idling fine and starting right up now. No drips from canister or anything on ground. I am just not sure what to do for the CEL ?

Any advice be greatly appreciated.

If it's solely the fuel issue, it should auto-clear after a few more clean starts. I do believe long crank will throw a CEL.

You can get a bluetooth reader off Amazon and Torque or similar on your phone to see what the CEL is, or go to any local auto store to get what the CEL is to verify.

Not to pile on, but be more careful with the priming procedure in the future - I wouldn't trust the pump to handle running dry gracefully even with the recall done.

I appreciate everything and I am not sensitive just new and want to learn! I primed it 2x and heard the pump both times per the book but I am reading that most people are priming between 5-10 times. I am assuming I tried to start too soon! I didn't know if my Tazer would be able to clear it, but it is running good, just annoying with the light obviously! I don't have leaks and the Fuel pump has been recalled already! Just an FYI!

Hey 👋
Sry to hear about CEL. Hopefully it clears soon
Regarding priming, I recommend 10 times> its been flawless for me after 5-6 fuel filter replacements so far
Best wishes

My neighbor has a code reader. Isn't my Tazer plugged into the OBD2. Do I just disconnect it to plug in his code reader and plug the Tazer back in when finished? Will this still keep all my saved Tazer settings if I do this?

Thanks
Chris

Your tazer can read the code and clear them.

Would love to see what codes were thrown.

This past winter, I had a cold start in sub 0 weather. And it cranked for 30 seconds before stopping. I started a second time and it cranked for 30 seconds before stopping. Then I got an error message that the starter needed to cool for a minute. Before I could try again. I had a 1 minute countdown timer, and then I could push the button again, it finally started But it took a lot to get, it started in the cold. I had no check engine light after that hard start.

For what it's worth, I prime 7+ times and it usually cranks maybe a sec longer than normal. This last time I did 7 prime cycles and then let it sit, and I think it did worse but would have to look at the video I took when I get home. They're definitely more finicky than I am used to from other diesels in the past. It'll be due for after my current trip, so I will try to remember and report back what this next experience is like.

The Tazer doesn't plug into the OBD2 port.
Yes it can read the codes. Down load the pdf of the owners manual for the Tazer and it will help you read the codes.
I read codes on my wife's Jeep, with the Tazer from my Jeep. No marry or un marry involved.

My tazer cannot plug in via obd2. It replaces sgw.
Yeah, I deleted because I remembered literally as I posted that it has the same pin arrangement as the sgw.

If this stupid forum didn't require a reason to delete and I hadn't had a hiccuough with the guest wireless where I am as I posted, you probably wouldn't have seen it.

There's no need to fill in a reason.

UPDATE:::
This is what I found out! I started the Jeep up and still fires right up and sound like it is running normal. Very quiet! I put a scanner on and the Code was P0087 which says Fuel Rail Reserve Too Low! I cleared the Code! That was the only code I have on the Jeep! Any thoughts or was it simply what I thought a bad prime job? I will have to do this 5-10 times next time! My GMC Diesel was not this picky! Do chime in as I am up for the education and learning experience! I do thank everyone that has replied for the insight and help! Still trying to learn my Jeep!

There is no standard for priming and crank time from what Ive seen. Ive done 4 filter changes in the last 34k miles and I've primed 2-3 times, 5-10 times, 15+ times, and every time it dry cranks for 5-7 seconds before firing up, which if you count is actually really long. I have never got a CEL though ( of course now that I've posted this all bets are off )

On the other hand, with my F350, I can hear when the air is purged after around 5 priming cycles, and the engine fires right up immediately with no dry cranking.
