Hi All,

Had the Jeep cleaned up last week and the detailer pointed out the passenger fender that looks like it has been warped from hot air. Took a closer look and the fender grill looks like it has been signed as well and see cracks in the plastic. Has anyone else experienced this?

The soonest spot to get it into the dealer to take a look is 2 mondays from now.

Any suggestions on how to deal with this at the dealer?

Defective part. The dealer should replace it under warranty, assuming your vehicle is still under warranty.

I have not heard of this before. If the heat source is coming from under the hood you might be able to locate the source by other items warping. Looks like the heat source is from the outside. I think some chemicals may create a reaction like that too.
Did you see any warped items under the hood? The flares are also multi layered. Did the inner layer show the same signs?
The Batteries are located in that area. Batteries could be a potential heat source. I would think a defective battery would cause other alarms in the vehicle systems. You have 2 different items showing signs of heat/chemical reaction. For 2 different items to show the same reaction, it would not seem likely that a manufacturing defect of 2 different items is the defect.
Good luck!

I would think if something got that hot behind that to do that type of damage behind it would be a train wreck ...I doubt it was caused by overheating behind it.

Do you recall parking it anywhere that may have had some concentrated sunlight hitting it? I know this sounds outta left field, but reflected sunlight off of energy-efficient windows can heat up some plastics enough to soften them so that they distort:

I had Coolaroo roller shades on my backyard pergola destroyed by reflected sunlight from the neighbors house windows. The damage on that fender kinda reminds me of what I saw on my Coolaroo shades - as the sun moved across the sky, it was like a laser beam tracing a straight line across the plastic, leaving behind wavy damage.

That’s a new one. Depending on your dealer they should replace it as a blemish so they can back charge Jeep. You can probably look forward to this pick I will share with you. Here’s the drivers inner fender that will get soft and fall into the tire. There is about 3” shredded off the bottom on the inner fender.

Thanks for the reply’s, it’s garage parked 90% of the time in my condo spot.

As it’s the passenger side, if I’m not mistaken that’s the same side as the down pipe/exhaust components, would a active regen heat potentially be the cause?

I’ll have to double check the fender liner, under the hood things looked ok, I’ll snap some more pics today.

It’s a 2020 with 17k kms - the only issues I’ve had so far was the loose steering issue that a lot of others have had too.
