OP - Don’t sweat it. I’ve watched Jeeps literally bounce all over rocks with the lockers on. If full torque on the axles loaded, unloaded and then shock loaded doesn’t scatter gear teeth, dragging your inner wheel a bit in the slush ain’t gonna do harm. They might not disconnect if they’re still loaded but a neutral roll usually unbinds ‘em. Totally normal.

Yeah... definitely going to have to Google it up. I would also like to find an offroad 101 course close by... but so far no joy.
For people not use to 4x4... the simple system doesn't seem so simple.
Still wrapping my head around it, coming from an AWD, things are a little different.
Think of it like AWD with a fully locked "center diff".

Thanks for the assurance. This whole thing was stressing me out so much. Like the other person, I didn’t know 4WD was so different than AWD.

On the bright side, I was feeling really down about replacing a previous sports car with a Jeep. Wasn’t sure I made the right decision. Especially with how beautiful the roads to Tahoe were. But now I’m looking forward to exploring the off roads more, and excited to be able to hike and camp again. My previous car was lowered and I scraped coming out of driveways so I basically shelved all my outdoors gear.
Get a buddy. 90% of the off road community is happy to help along the way in those initial trips. Don't wheel alone.

- Once snow gets in the tread, it’s like a slick

This is a trait of All-Terrains like the KO2. Same thing can happen in mud. You'll notice that mud terrains have open/tapered voids so they can throw it out.
That seems to be the opposite of my understanding. Maybe I've got it reversed?

My understanding is that tires designed for snow are intended to grab as much snow as possible since snow grabs onto snow extremely well. That's why they have lots of sipes and their interior walls are perpendicular to the tire's face.

Mud terrains, on the other hand, have wide open / slanted voids to eject mud as quickly as possible. That makes them great for mud (and not carrying around rocks), but also makes them pretty damn bad in snow. I'm fairly positive I've never seen a 3-peak rated mud terrain.

Do I have that all backwards? I'm pretty sure I don't.

Every set of snow tires and "snow rated" all seasons I've ever had all grabbed the snow and kept it in the sipes.

Exactly. And that's why tires designed for mud (where it's all about ejecting stuff out) literally blow chunks in snow.

I would strongly recommend that you get at least one set of MaxxTraxx/ recovery Trax - whatever you want to call them. They start at about $50 on Amazon and go up to $250+ for the name brands. Incredibly simple to use, and takes much less time than a winch. Have 2 winches on Jeeps and still go for the Amazon-purchased Trax 1st. They'll work with any vehicle: my son-in-law's Dodge Ram in snow, stranger's Chevy Suburban pulling a boat trailer in Beach sand, Tacoma stuck sideways in a snowbank.
(You didn't damage anything - BUT I wouldn't do that on a regular basis)
