New member here to the forum. I've had my Jeep since 2019 with no problems and love it, but a recent weird problem has come up. Neither key fob, with batteries recently replaced, will activate ignition button. Auto trans. and Park to Drive indicator lights next to shifter stay on constantly, bur blink every 8 sec off and then stay back on. I think shifter is all the way in park, but cannot move it. Battery seems strong, even tried jumping but button does not activate, just stays in off position. Don,t know what the blimking trans. indicator lights mean, but seems to be blocking ignition button from working. Hoping for something simple I am overlooking ,if not will have to get it towed. would greatly appreciate any input or suggestions Anthony

I had this problem on my X5, and it ended up being a corroded ground from the motor to the frame.

Sorry I can't be much more help but wanted to give you something to check.

Thanks for the replies. 3.6 L V6 engine. Stupid question. but what is ESS? Took my main battery out to a shop to have it checked and notice gear selector lights r still lit and flashing every 8 sec.

If you're not sure what ESS is, you probably don't know what eTorque is either. If you have the eTorque system, you do not have the little Aux Battery. No eTorque, and you have that Aux Battery. On a 2019, it is most definitely shot. Replace both batteries. (Assuming no eTorque)

Yeah, I do have that ESS, have had it turned off, I will see if I can get the batteries checked out. What I don't understand headlights seem strong when turn on, but cant get ignition to go to run or start, pushing start button does nothing. So maybe the auxiliary battery could cause this? where is that battery located? thx

does it always happen, or one spot? If one spot only, my issue was because 5g cell antenna interference.

All 4 lights lit up on the shifter indicates a communication fault. If you're not familiar with communication diagnostics have it taken to the dealer.

Okay, thx for all the input. looks like I will be having it towed to the dealer. I purchased the base wrangler with no air, power windows, just a fun island car, but still can't get away from a lot of new electronics on these modern cars. Times like this when I sort of miss my old jeep 35 yrs ago that didn't have so much stuff to go wrong! Also would probably help if i was a little more of a mechanic, but i still love my jeep

Instead of blindly letting a dealership slide you the long wang. It might not be a bad idea to get a code scanner off Amazon and at least get an idea of what your looking at. It may be an easy fix.

Just a suggestion.

This might sound stupid but worth a try. When the batteries in your FOB are too low to start your vehicle. You can still start the Jeep by using the butt end of the key fob to push the start button. It works cause I have had to use this. It may be worth a try..Look it up in your manual, not spoofing you..
