Un-Christmasing the house and shipping the offspring back to college this weekend. 🤷‍♂️
Yeah, that was a prerequisite for this trip. The un-Christmasing thing of my house. Seems like I get more prerequisites now than in college.

Wife has 4 more trips to the hospital this week, then hopefully I can get out there. Next Saturday is my birthday, and I’ll be enjoying it while at work unfortunately. The joys (or lack thereof) of having Wednesdays and Thursdays off. But hey, for the first time in like 10 years I had Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s off, so it’s a good trade I guess 🤷‍♂️

Timing is everything
I have one weekend off schedule this month so if something comes up on that weekend I’m hoping to join in.

We drove in from the North past Lake of the Woods and did the Lockwood trail first. Nice weather; wind did not eventuate. Saw 1 motorcycle and 2 Jeeps on that trail. Some rocky sections but nothing that a stock vehicle would not be able to do comfortably. Trail was steep enough to require 4LO the whole way. Minor pin-striping. Appeared to be well maintained. Lockwood Flat is nice but fairly isolated.
From Lockwood Flat to Dutchman Campground the trail gets steeper and there are sections where the trail is eroded well below the surrounding ground (ie no bypass possible) and contains some short areas of rocks. Probably about 4-5 sections where we had to think about lines through rocks. Did not use spotters. Did not need lockers. I'm not an rock crawling expert but my feeling is that a stock Rubicon on 33s would make it but would scrape on those sections. With 35s and the XR lift I only hit something once when I picked the wrong line.
From Dutchman Campground out to the freeway the road was potholed in places but a passenger vehicle could make it.
Great day out.

South entrance to the Hungry Valley SRA was closed, with a sign helpfully informing us that 50 feet before the locked gate, so we deviated from the alltrails route below and exited North up to near Gorman.

Met some new people this trip. I wanted to make a good impression and arrived 5 minutes early, only to find everyone standing around in the cold waiting for me. 🤷‍♂️

Nobody wanted to sit down at Denny's for breakfast. Already, I'm thinking these guys are hardcore. So, off we went. Gassed up at Flying J at the Frazier Park exit.

I yielded the lead to @dstevens , as he was prepared with GAIA maps downloaded and he's much more proficient with that app than I. I did download the maps into my device, but I'm just not comfortable on the fly with that app yet. I need my navigator/spotter, Keith.

It's been right at 50 years since I've been on this trail. I was a shotgun rider at the time. Some things I recall clearly, most of it, I had no recollection of. Probably because the route is much different that we took to get to the base of Alamo Mtn. We used to go up the creek. That is apparently closed for OHVs and you go over a mountain now.

I had a great time with my new friends and thanks again to @dstevens for taking the lead.

Looks like a fun trip. Miller is a great trail.
I would have picked you up on the way, but Pig-Pen said you don't do well as a passenger. I really didn't want to find out.
