Today I tried to shift out of 4Lo with the Jeep completely stopped, foot on break, forgot to put the transmission in neutral, so still in drive. Pushed really quite hard on the transfer case shift, probably over 150lb of force since I was bracing against the seat. Did that twice before I realize I'm still in drive. Put the transmission in neutral and shift out of 4Lo quite easily. just wondering if that 2 push can damage the cables? I can feel the shifter flexes when I did that.

You’re probably okay against damage. But ideally you should never be fully stopped while trying to shift in or out of low. You’re supposed to be rolling 2-3 mph, shift tranny into N and then shift the transfer case… It should slip right in like butter…

I tried to shift to 4low while on drive and it was getting super hard to shift and noticed it. Didn't force the sift. As long as it engages properly now, I think you are good. Also if anything goes wrong, take it to the dealer as you will be under warranty and skip this story when you're there.. ;)

I'm thinking that there might be something that physically locks the transfer case shifter when in drive. Cause that was some really hard push I did. Shifting into and out of 4lo stopped isn't smooth but not hard.
