To summarize my other post: driving on sand/beach and shifted from 2hi to 4hi at about 11mph. Transfer case stick went from normal (read hard) resistance feel to zero resistance and am now without 4hi or 4lo. Don't see anything obvious broken on the linkage and the stick can move through all positions but drive line does not switch to 4 wheel...🙃

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated

Update #2: the plastic piece circled in the previous photo is moving freely with the cable, I'm guessing it is not supposed to and should be held stationary.

Can anyone confirm or deny this and possibly have a picture of where it should be held?

Did you ever figure this out? I just had a 19a recall done, and when I went to shift into 4H to test everything out, I immediately ran into the same problem. I brought it back to the dealer and they said that the retention device on that cable had broken and they were going to replace it under warranty. By the way, shifting did work fine before the work on the clutch so I have to assume something went amiss during the work and was not caught by the tech when buttoning everything back up. Looking at the transfer case shifter cable part, it comes with the terminating ends and brackets. the one in the cockpit is plastic and does not look very strong.
