Well, I had an issue where i used a tazer to set gearing to 4.88 because when i bought the truck i was told it was regeared. Whenever i would put it in 4WL after some time i would get a "service 4wd light" It i put it back in 2wd or 4WH it would reset. Once i set it back to 4.10 the light never came back. So i know from first hand experience that those symptoms can happen in that situation. Sounds like this may not be your situation since you sure about the gearing.

The potting thing is a known issue, there are various threads about it here. There is a TSB for bad connections at the 4WD control module and sensor at the transfer case as well..

@stretch-bsn The potting of the sensors only matters if you are using the OEM locker harness and oem rubicon buttons with a position feedback to the drivetrain module. If you didn't do that and are just using a two wire connection (ebay type) to activate the lockers with an accessory switch then you won't have the issue that Roger is describing.

Didn't you have some wheel speed sensor issues or similar codes back when you swapped axles?

Have you hooked up your Jscan to see if there are any codes recently?

I appreciate that feedback and that’s really good to know. I am just using the accessory switch and wire connection like you’re describing. They are stock 392 axles and lockers but aftermarket switch and wire connectors.

You’re also right about the speed sensors. I ran my Jscan when I got out of work and found this (below). So I’m doing an oil change and tire rotation this weekend….plan is to pull each wheel speed sensor and clean it really well…see if that fixes it.

Oddly enough, I put the Jeep in 4low and let it sit for the day in that position while I was at work. Came out and put it back into 2wd and the light hasn’t popped back on.
