I wanted Rhino Racks versatility with an unobstructed use of my Sky One-touch. Required some cutting, but here it is. Gives me the cargo area with the utility to carry long objects and mount a batwing canopy.

Can we see some pics of it mounted on your MOAB? I’m curious how much clearance is between the top and the rack.

Sure, I'll take pictures when the rack is back on the Jeep next week. The rack is currently off to mount a perimeter top rail.

nice - does the roof go all the way back? I am looking to do the same.

That looks like a cool project! Any chance you can video the roof opening from the outside?

No internal support. No plans to carry anything heavy on the rack, mostly light cargo and a Rhino Bat Wing canopy.

That is exactly what I would like to do. Can you share the part numbers that you used and maybe a few things about the customization that you had to do?

I bought the following:
  • Rhino-Rack 107" x 58" Unassembled Pioneer Platform
  • Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform Full Rail Kit for the 42105B platform
  • Rhino-Rack RL150S13 Legs - 3 sets
  • Sheet of black 1" HDPE Plastic
I had to cut the rack down to a size that fits the jeep, both length and width. There isn't an ideal size available from Rhino, they are either too large or small. Used a table saw to cut the aluminum pieces. It takes some planning to make it fit and I have probably 3-4 hours in the rack, customizing and assembling. The HDPE plastic is used to fill in places in the rack where the retracting top can catch.

It turned out well, except for noise. First ride was unbearable with loud whistling and wind noise. Added a wind fairing and it's nearly silent, even pleasant with the top open. I'll take a picture of the wind fairing and post it up. It's made of plexiglass covered in 3M Dinoc Carbon Wrap, on both sides. Removed the Rhino Rack badge from the rack and riveted it to the fairing.
