I brought my JLUS in for a look at my noisy passenger seat last week. They confirmed that the seat frame was bad and had to order one with no ETA. Hopefully this fixes the issue because it is annoying when someone over 140 lbs. sits down in it. Will update when seat is again worked on!

@wrangster

Others here on the forum, have had the same issue. Replacement frame fixed the issue for those JL owner's.

Wrangster...I bought my JLUR the weekend before xmas and had the same issue at about 100 miles on the odometer. I found a fix that seems to be holding up. Took the seat out and it's the seat joint...theres a pressed ring where the seat back and seat come together at the joint that's loose so the metal to metal makes a sort of a popping sound when someone with weight is in it. My fix was to put copious amounts of wheel grease around the ring (basically packed it like a bearing and wiped it clean). Seems to have fixed the problem and didn't have to deal with the dealer. It was super easy and took about 30 minutes. It was on the console side of my passenger seat in my case. From my memory, I had a TJ in college and I think it did the same thing because that sound sounded sooo familiar. So if it comes back...this may be a solution. I try to fix things myself other than dealing with the stealership :)

Did you just remove those plastic covers on the side to get to it?

All I did was take the 4 seat bolts out, leaned/balanced the seat out the door and took off the plastic cover over the seat joint nearest to the center console (2 screws). When you take it off you will be able to see the joint ring. It's a hole about the size of a quarter (if I remember correctly) with a pressed ring around it. If you hold on to the base of the seat and push on the back of the seat, you can see the seat brackets move and it makes the creak sound. Just pack the ring that's pressed around the hole full of wheel grease and wipe off the excess and viola! I'm thinking people get the seat rail replaced thinking it's that and then it comes back because if you think about it, when you take it all apart when replacing the rail...it moves everything around thus the creak goes away for a while. It does sound like a seat rail problem btw. So far the grease option has worked for me. Takes about 30 minutes.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I have the same noise from the passenger seat when someone is in it. If I sit in it and pull myself to the front with no weight on the back, it doesn't pop. Mine pops when making a turn from one direction to another.

JK had a TSB for squeaky seats. They put some type of grease on the seat frame and several years later I don't have the squeak back.

I'm having the same issue, I think. It's been in the shop 5 times for this and now they say there is no ETA on the part. According to the dealer, they have to wait for the part to be manufactured...doesn't seem right to me but that's what I was told. Oh, the service advisor also asked if I had a really fat girl in that seat when I took it off-road...not sure if I should laugh or be appalled so I laughed.

The interesting thing on mine is they said it was a broken weld. As you might imagine, that makes me feel really good about putting my passengers in that seat. Hopefully it is just metal rubbing and no real issue.

On another note, is FCA usually backed up on parts? This is my first Chrysler product and there are two parts back ordered. One is due on May 17 and with the seat having no ETA, it makes me wonder if this is "normal" for this company.

Thinking about going the lemon law route and just changing it out for another Rubi...

Hi TexasMark,
We apologize about the wait for the new parts. We are available via private message if you would like any additional assistance during this process.
