Crack in windshield from defrost

While driving home from the airport this weekend, my windshield cracked from the thermal difference between the 8°f outside and the defrost temp. Is this something that they will cover by warranty since that's not something that should happen? There aren't any pits or other impact points where it occurred/started, and I haven't seen this happen on other vehicles even when in the arctic (at double-digits negative vs full-hot defrost), at least not when there wasn't a chip or similar as a starting point. I have the Gorilla glass if that has any influence....

There have been numerous posts/threads on here where people haven't been successful in getting their Gorilla Glass windshields replaced under warranty. Your best bet is heading to your dealer and asking them.

That will likely depend on the dealer. They'll have to go to bat for you. Then again, they can just as easily go against you. I'd take it in and find out. Good luck.

I am finding this warranty to be quite a nebulis thing. @JeepCares told me today it doesn't apply to my 2022 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. I ordered it in Nov 2021, took delivery in Feb 2022, custom build sheet included the Corning Gorilla Glass, window sticker shows I paid for it. The product is listed on ( Gorilla Glass Windshield | Official Mopar® Site ) website, the only place I could find out anything about it since during the build pages where it is an option there is no info. That page has a range (2019 - Present) so it includes my build. That page says two year warranty and has a link to the warranty details, and the details specify a 2-year limited (from date of install) warranty. OK, ordered in Nov 2021, built then delivered in Feb 2022, yep, under two years from the date of factory install. No, no, no they told me, it only applies to replacement windshields. OK, WTF?

The Basic Limited Warranty lasts for three years from the date it begins or for 36,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first. The following items are covered only for one year or for 12,000 miles on the odometer, whichever occurs first:
• Brakes (rotors, pads, linings, and drums)
• Bulbs
• Clutch Discs or Modular Clutch Assembly (if equipped)
• Wheel Alignment
• Wheel Balancing
• Windshield and Rear Window
• Wiper Blades

The Gorilla Glass appears to be an absolute fail. I'm on my third in 9 months. First replacement was scratched upon delivery. Warranty replacement. Second replacement due to the first and only rock hit on the highway. Yeah can't base GG on my limited experience but reading a bunch of threads here on the subject is not encouraging.

Windshield front/rear may be a 12 month item under original warranty for materials/workmanship defects, but the upgrded Gorilla Glass front windshield is documented to have its own Mopar warranty of 2 yrs against certain types of impact damage.

As written, that is only applicable to replacement glasses installed at the dealer.

Ok so I’m driving along hwy with heater on low, fan setting is 2, temp setting 23, no one in front of me, then suddenly I get a pop on the windshield glass, I’m like wtf, there’s no one in front, how is that even possible. I stop for gas and inspect the heartbreaking star on on the GG, there’s not even a pebble mark(or hole), it’s like it somehow popped within the layers. After reading some comments the GG is on the inner layer, so how’s it possible I get a star on the glass, even if it was outside there’s nothing when I run my finger across it. Would this be covered under the warranty or would it need replacing first? How much for a new OEM windshield? My Jeep is 2025 Willys, does a replacement OEM come with the Easter egg? Or would I be bette off going to Speedy Auto Glass Repair?

If you have a good dealer, and it's less than a year since you bought it, and you get there immediately, you might get a replacement. Otherwise, based on personal experience, just get a cheap windshield if you live somewhere that gets sub-freezing temps.
