Mixing the wrong coolants in your engine will cause so much problems that I always use the manufacture's brand. It doesn't cost that much more and I know that it is safe to use.
It’s not about cost it’s about availability. That PEAK stuff above saved my ass when I realized my coolant was low at 830pm on a Weds evening. It meets all the specs for MOPAR. It’s fine. Now when I finally flush the whole system it will get all mopar coolant.

Agreed.

OEM consumables used to have a significant price difference. Anymore, though, the aftermarket brands have caught up in price, such that it's easier to purchase and recommend the factory fluids, etc. since there's no real savings to be captured by buying elsewhere.

What I guessed would happen, and has indeed occurred, is price creep with the 50/50 pre-diluted coolants. When first introduced, their pricing was observably lower than the concentrates. That made sense, because how could they get away with marking up a half gallon of distilled water? Anymore, though, the 50/50s are about as expensive as the concentrated antifreeze, which themselves are now harder to find in stock.

It's a conspiracy, I tells ya!

It absolutely is, there are only a few companies that do pricing analysis, everyone else hires them to determine the price for their product.
Every market work this way. Real estate apartments is a perfect example of it, if you dig into it, the same company dictates about 70% of pricing across the nation. And they enforce contract stipulations that forbid business to deviate from that pricing model. That is why prices are high and they stay high.

In my 10 years of past experience across several states, 50-50 been only a few $ cheaper than pure coolant, like $20 vs $24. For the most part, pure is no where to be found.

Actually here in Canada the MOPAR it's almost 2 1/2 times the price of PEAK Coolant if I remember correctly and yes when there is an emergency ( that happened to me) it's good to know where to get the right coolant. And don't forget Dealerships closing way earlier and closed Sundays compared to other retailers

Antifreeze, like engine oil, should already be part of one's spares inventory in the garage.

I agree with you and I do have everything I need to do the maintenance and more in my garage but realistically shit happens when you're not home 😂 and we all need to know what to buy and where
